MADISON-Rodney Malcolm Johnson, age 74, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services will be held at ARBOR COVENANT CHURCH, 2509 McDivitt Road, Madison, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017. Burial will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, and also at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Sunday.

Rod was the second pastor at Arbor Covenant and came before he was married.
I understand that he was a very good student and had good grades. He had impressive knowledge of church history from 1500 on. I remember talking to him about "The Fundamentals", books that were published after 1900. He had some copies from his father-in-law and I read some of them. In spite of this knowledge,, he was a master of making sermons simple and holding attention.

Rodney was a friend and colleague for many years. I deeply respected his intellect, his integrity, and his loyalty. He was a beloved brother in Christ. Peace be with you, Rodney.

I was sorry to read the announcement today in the Covenant Companion. I visited Arbor Covenant a few times when I was in graduate school 1968-1972. I remember Rodney Johnson helped clarify something important in my life. He was a saintly servant.
