BROOKLYN/OREGON-Susan Kaye “Sue” Barsness, age 70, of Brooklyn, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at UW Hospital and Clinics. She was born on Oct. 30, 1947, in Madison, the daughter of Johannes “Hans” and Mildred (Sabanske) Dahler. Susan graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 1965. After graduation, she went to work as a secretary for Research Products Corporation in Madison. She married Richard Barsness on April 27, 1968, in Mount Horeb. In the early 70’s they settled in Oregon, Wis., where they raised their two children. In addition to being a homemaker and loving mom, Susan worked as a transcriptionist in her at-home office for over 40 years. She took great pride in her work. Susan possessed a charitable heart and kind soul, finding great pleasure in serving and helping others. For many years she delivered Meals on Wheels for the Oregon/Brooklyn area, helped out at the local newspaper (Oregon Observer) and taught Catechism classes at Holy Mother of Consolation Church where she was a member. She very much enjoyed weekend family getaways as well as many other trips around the country to visit siblings and friends. Her most cherished trip was in 1993, when she traveled with her father, brother and sister-n-law to Switzerland and Germany. She enjoyed watching old westerns and crime dramas on TV as well as trips with friends to the casino. Susan is survived by her husband of 49 years, Richard Barsness of Brooklyn; daughter, Jennifer (Trevin) Jenness of Phoenix, Ariz.; son, Timothy (Tiffany) Barsness of Milton; grandchildren, Joshua and Kaylyn Bakken, Spencer Chinn and Madelyn Barsness; siblings Jean Ann Maynard of Sun Prairie, Patricia (Robert) Arnett of Stoughton, Dennis (Cheryl) Dahler of Madison, and John (Becky) Dahler of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hans Dahler and Mildred Metzger. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park Street, Oregon, at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, with Father Gary Wankerl presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to PHA (Pulmonary Hypertension Association). The family wishes to thank Dr. James Runo and his entire staff at the UW Hospital, along with caretakers from Comfort Keepers. Mom, we love you very much! You will be forever in our hearts.

Aunt Sue was such a sweet and funny lady. Always with a smile on her face and a hug ready to give. I will never forget her.

I went to high school with her. She was such fun to be with. I never forgot the time that she got the waste paper basket stuck on her butt. I never laughed so hard in my life. Mrs. Kohl was also laughing with us. She seemed to always have a smile on her face.

I went to school with Sue - she was a fun and loving person to be around. I recall one winter evening in the school parking lot where she and Lynne were doing donuts with their parents cars on the snowy lot. She will be missed - my sympathy to you Rick and your family.

Sue was my "virtual coworker" the past few years and we shared many laughs (and frustrations) in comparing notes on our transcription work. Sue was always willing to laugh at herself and take things as they came - truly a lovely soul. I will miss our emails and her wonderful sense of humor. (And at the end of a long day, she always knew it was 5:00 somewhere:) CHEERS TO A WONDERFUL LADY! You will be missed.

I worked online for the same transcription company as Sue (a really great place to work, by the way). Every once in a while, we would have a round robin discussion about some style sheet or what to do for a certain client. Oftentimes, Sue was the deciding party because of her expertise in transcribing. But she was never officious about being right. She just made a suggestion, and then we usually followed her lead because it seemed the correct thing to do. I will miss her wit and charm in our e-mail communications as well as her advice. It seems she lived her life to the fullest!
