It's Gameday. Homecoming.
Marian’s spirit is singing like a Cardinal’s song.
A breeze fills the room with cool lake air. The Packers game echoes out the screen door. A canopy of Amber Fall foliage blankets her flower gardens, resting to be reborn in Spring.
“Listen to the Cardinals sing,” she said in her passing. Cardinals sang to her.
We called her Grandma “Ducks” and “Badger” anyway
One day soon she will sing back to us
Her big bear hug warms you as you enter the room.
Her intoxicating chuckle is a melody accompanied by her cheers….
Go Big Red! Go Pack Go!
Her spirit amplifies the energy of the room like a packed stadium.
“The Game's on. Call you back at halftime.”
She always lived in the moment
Marian said, “Believe in Angels,” and lived like one.
It's 4th of July. Fireworks light up the Capitol sky. Mortars echo off the lake.
A Symphony of blue and red sulfur streams waltz in the sky. Food platters and finger foods. Water skiing and fishing on the lake. Reading, sewing, crafting and endless dinner parties with family and friends. Canoeing and cabins.
So many Good Times. Cocktail Hour. The Best of Times.
She never took anything for granted. Every day was a gift.
Grateful and faithful. Her belief in God unwavering.
“Never go to bed angry,” she taught us
It's Christmas Day. A decorated tree sparkles aside our Matriarch’s chair.
She celebrates her family, and the gifts God gave us. Presents stacked high. Grandchildren’s laughter fills the room. Fried Oysters and Cheese Curds.
Cherry Candy Canes, Piñatas, and Christmas Crackers.
Elks Club and a Hockey Games. Snowmobiling up North.
Snowbirds in Boynton Beach. Almost Heaven. Church on Sundays
Reading the Sunday Funnies in the Post as the sun shimmered off the Intercoastal.
Greeting Friends, Grandkids and their future Partners.
Marian never went to bed angry.
Marian was a Pioneer.
President of Academy Electric and Women in Construction.
She built a ladder for Women entrepreneurs when they were taught not to climb. Her children channeled and amplified that light. Paving their own paths. Confronting injustice. Healing those in need. Running ethical businesses and walking in God’s footsteps. She reflected her light by celebrating us. A living legacy with roots. Her recollection of dates and details, birthdays and family trees outlasted the fading paper they were transcribed on.
Its Homecoming in Reedsburg, WI. Marian is in love with Earl. She cheers as he sprints down the field against Baraboo. His leg would fail. Polio.
But nothing would ever slow them down or stand in their way.
They made a family.
Their kids Steven, David, Sharon, and MariLyn made them proud.
They traveled the world together. Friendship Force. Fishing in Alaska. Australia.
Soulmates. An incredible journey for more than 70 years.
The best of times that reflected happiness on everyone around them -
like amber sunbeams sparkling off Marian’s brown eyes.
As we reflect on these memories, she asked that our “Grieving be comforted by trust,” as she shared in a poem: “I won’t be far away, for life goes on.
If you listen with your heart, you’ll hear all my love around you soft and clear.
And when you must journey this way,
I’ll greet you with a smile, and
“Welcome Home'.”
