My first memories of Alan was when I came to the UW Madison Campus in Spring of 1983 and learned of the UW Wargaming club. Alan one one of the members there and he showed me a young brash 17yo kid his favorite game Dawn Patrol, and not only how to play, but the honesty and camaraderie which are core to the game. I didn't know it at the time, but the game would take a central place in my life and be a driving force so many years later. God Speed Alan and we will have an empty chair at the FITS table and in our hearts. It won't be the same without you

We appreciated Alan's sense of humor and competitive sprit at the bridge table. He was a fine partner and formidable opponent for many evening of party bridge at The Madison Club. He will be missed.
Thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Alan was a true friend indeed. The memories are too many to mention. Just ask his high school friends! He was a part of the “clique!” An exclusive bunch of kids who attended East High. We played games, sang, some were in band. We just lived life in the moment! One of my best memories was when Alan helped me with math home work. He did this many many times. I still hate math today, but Alan helped me get through it. Thank you Alan for all your help! The memories will live on forever!

I’ve known Alan for almost 50 years. He was the sort of friend one could always count on for help.
He was, without question, one of the most intelligent people I have ever had the honor of knowing. From literature to science to history, religion and philosophy; there did not seem to be any topic in which Alan was not the most knowledgeable person in the room. I’m glad zi had the opportunity to talk with him again last summer. His friends will all miss him a great deal. I know I’ll never hear “ The Rain Dance” from Woodstock or a Beach Boys song that I do not think of him. KBS , Alien.

Al, sad to see you are gone. I was looking forward to seeing along with the rest of the clique when I return to Madison this spring. You were a good and loyal friend since our days at Madison East High School. You will be missed by all.
