MONONA-Mary J. Heindl, age 86, of Monona, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017. She was born on Sept. 8, 1931, in Madison, the daughter of Charles and Elnora (Gleason) Wirth. She married Emerson Heindl on Sept. 27, 1952, at Truax Field. Mary is survived by her husband, Emerson; sons, Bruce (Kate Carter) and Brian (Martha Ann); and grandchildren, Brian Jr., Matthew (Amber), Stephanie and Elizabeth. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Stanley and Kenneth Wirth. A Memorial Gathering will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017. A private family burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to the National Kidney Foundation. Online condolences may be made at gundersonfh.com.

My sympathies to Mary's family on her passing. Mary and I raised our older children at the same time in Monona, Bruce Heindl and my son, Eric Alver. When the first shopping center opened in Monona we had our little boys in their strollers and because the parking lot wasn't paved and it rained, we got the strollers stuck in the mud. The lot was filled with wet people, padding through thick, sticky ground and going into the store to take advantage of the opening sales. Jackie Alver Langetieg

I've known Mary Heindl, her husband, Emerson (Buzz) and their sons Bruce and Brian my entire life. Bruce and Brian were my BEST childhood friends and I mourn their enormous loss. Mary was a very sweet woman and terrific mother.
When my younger brother Jason Langetieg passed away in 2003 Mary and Buzz Heindl came to his funeral and I was so happy to see them there and forever grateful. Ever since whenever I'd go to Monona and drive up Bridge Rd. I'd always look to see if Mary or Buzz or both were outside so I could say " Hi " or at least honk and wave.
The Heindl's are wonderful people and such an important and happy part of my childhood. I mourn your loss, Buzz, Bruce, Brian and your families ...
