Mary A Corcoran

MADISON-Mary A. Corcoran, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017 at Hebron Oaks Skilled Nursing Facility Oakwood Village-University Woods. Mary was born on September 19, 1934, in the town of West Point, Wis., to Roman and Agnes (Ryan) Boehmer. She attended St. Aloysius grade school, Edgewood High School, and graduated from Prairie du Sac High School class of 1952. Mary then enrolled at St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Milwaukee, graduating in 1955. She subsequently attended Marquette University to obtain her certificate in Public Health Nursing. She worked as a Public Health Nurse until her marriage. Mary married Edward Corcoran at Ft. Hood, Texas on August 16, 1958. They lived together in Germany from December 1958 until February 1960. Upon return from overseas, they lived in St. Paul, Minn., where she worked at St. Mary’s Hospital, Minneapolis and Gillette Children’s Hospital. They moved to Sturtevant, Wis., where she worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Racine. Ultimately, they wound up in Madison, where Mary had a 30 year career at UW-Madison, University Health Services (Student Health) primarily as a hypertension and diabetes educator. She retired in 1997.Mary will be remembered as a loving soul and dedicated friend. Mary was talented with textiles and enjoyed creating home décor, and making special items for her extended family and friends. She also maintained lifelong friendships with her neighbors, bridge club members, and fellow snowbirds in Orange Beach, Ala. Mary loved cats, and they loved her. Mary is survived by her husband Edward, her son Patrick, nieces and nephews, Jerry, John, Virginia, Joseph, Jean; a niece by marriage, Jackie; and their spouses, children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Bridget, twin daughters who were stillborn, her sister Luella, a brother Francis who died before Mary was born, and many aunts and uncles. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 602 Everglade Drive, Madison at 11 AM on Wed., Dec. 20, 2017, with Father Bart Timmerman presiding and Monsignor Terrence Connors concelebrating. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until the time of the Mass. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery, Sauk City.
