Obituary
MADISON/SUN PRAIRIE-Janice Marie von Allmen, age 83, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017. She was born on April 29, 1934, in Boaz, the daughter of George and Minnie (Bailey) Hicks. A graduate of Madison East High School, she was later married to Walter von Allmen on Nov. 14, 1952, and was blessed with two children, Jeff and Sandy. For many years, Janice worked as a construction estimator for several prominent businesses in the Madison area. Among her many hobbies, she was an avid reader and a skillful knitter. She donated countless afghans to nursing homes, and found great happiness in knitting cherished baby blankets for family and friends. Nothing was more important to Janice than family, and she was at the center of every holiday and family event. Janice is survived by her daughter, Sandy (Victor) Rodriguez; granddaughter, Danna (Timothy) Henke; great-granddaughter, Stella Henke; brother, David (Shelly) Hicks; sister-in-law, Jan Hicks. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wally; son, Jeff von Allmen; grandson, Drew Romaker; brother, Robert Hicks; and sister, June (Robert "Boots") Schoenauer. Memorial Service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.

Aunt Janice will be missed! I didn't call her often, but when I did we talked for a long time. She helped me get through the tough days with my Mom's alzheimer's , and always reminded me that it was the disease, not Mom being agitated, and aggressive and not take it personally. She had a heart of gold, and was always willing to listen. So many great memories I have from Waunona Way to the present!

Sandy and Family: So very sorry about Aunt Janice’s passing. I enjoyed our phone conversations and visits. We talked about how her faith carried her through many challenges in recent years. Such grace. I will miss her. Love and sympathy to you all.
