Obituary
Phyllis Guggemos was born on July 24, 1923, and died at home at Oakwood Village on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022.
At the center of Phyllis’s life was her deep love and care for her family. Beyond this, she had a gift for friendship and a genuine interest in every person she met. She could learn someone’s life story pretty much within half an hour of meeting them.
Phyllis was fascinated with the world around her: nature, art, music, the human mind and body, current events. She eagerly read and researched and wanted to discuss them all. Painting with watercolors let her express her creativity, as did making cards with flowers she pressed and dried. Above all her interests, except family, her flowers and gardening brought her peace and joy, and were her gifts of beauty to the world.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore Glasrud and Albertina "Abby" (Rosendahl) Glasrud; her husband, Leonard “Tex” Guggemos; her special friend, Roy Anderson; her brother, Theodore Glasrud; and her very dearly beloved sister, JoAnn Riley.
She is survived by her three children, Cynthia Guggemos (Steve Cary), Richard Guggemos (Janet Robinson) and Ann Guggemos-Horwich (Lee Horwich); six grandchildren, Nick Guggemos (Jen Shitanishi), Abbie Cary (Noah Yasskin), Sam Horwich, Kate Horwich, Sarah Guggemos and Charlie Guggemos; and two great-grandchildren, Henry Yasskin and Elliot Yasskin.
The family would like to offer special thanks to The Health and Wellness staff of Oakwood Village, the staff of Agrace HospiceCare and the caregivers of Graceful Guidance for all their exceptional care for our mother.
In accordance with Phyllis’s deep love for the natural world, she will be buried with a private family service at Natural Path Sanctuary in Verona on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022, assisted by Gunderson Funeral and Cremation Care.
