June 10, 1934 - December 02, 2017
Obituary
FITCHBURG/MADISON- Harold Leo “Harry” Kuehn, died on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017. He was born on June, 10, 1934 to Leo Herman Kuehn and Lydia Marie Rothe Kuehn; he was baptized at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Royal Oak, Mich. Harry was a lifelong Lutheran and a disciple of Christ who firmly believed that we are all saved by grace through faith. He lived his faith by example and was quick to discuss religion with one and all without being judgmental.
At 19, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Germany as a guided missile specialist. Returning home, he attended Valparaiso University where he found his “rib” in Mariellen Laucht. They were married on June 7, 1959. Their lives were filled with family, friends, trust and love; their faith in God and each other supported them through the highs and lows of life. They were blessed with two daughters, Lisa Watson-Hill, a Lutheran pastor and Laura (Mike) Hobart, a college math professor; and four grandchildren, Fox Hobart, Bethany Hobart, Leo Hill and Harold Watson-Hill.
Harry’s early career was in insurance; first as an agent for Aid Association for Lutherans (Detroit, Mich.) and later as an executive for Wisconsin National Life Insurance Company (Oshkosh, Wis). In 1975, he accepted a call to serve as Business Administrator at Bethel Lutheran in Madison where he had the opportunity to merge his business skills with his faith. At Bethel, he was consecrated as an AIM (Associated in Ministry). Harry’s favorite job was as an Assistant to the President of the Southern Wisconsin District of the American Lutheran Church under Bishop A.C. Schumacher. After the merger of the ALC and the LCA, Harry served as Business Administrator at St John’s Lutheran in Madison.
Harry’s primary purpose in life was to serve his God and he lived his faith effortlessly. He was Co-Dean of the Retired Rostered Ministers in which he was active for many years. He loved attending the weekly Christian Concerns group and men’s breakfast group at Bethel Lutheran Church. Harry was active on the Board of the Triangle Community Ministry and appreciated the many friendships formed within this community. He naturally encouraged those he met and will be remembered for his quick smile and boisterous laughter. If you knew Harry, you knew him to be kind and faithful. He will be missed by many.
A service of joy will be held at LAKE EDGE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4032 Monona Drive, Monona, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017. All are welcome! In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lutheran World Relief or The Triangle Community Ministry in Madison, Wisconsin.

Dear Mariellen, Lisa and Laura,
I am so very sorry for your loss. One of my memories of Harry is that he was brave enough to take two teenagers (Lisa and me) from Madison to Milwaukee to see the Osmonds back in the late 70's,. (Wasn't there also a tornado warning?) I think of that everytime my children asked to go to a concert, or asked me to chaperone! I hope you find comfort in your memories. With much love, Danielle Schneider Gale and family

I remember with great appreciation our times with EI and the ICA - in Oshkosh, Brillion, Chicago, and a visit with you in your home off Midvale Blvd. Harry was upbeat, forward thinking, serious, and fun.
I am glad to remember and love him.

I have great memories of Harry from his time as business manager at St John's and his time at the Triangle. He was truly a man of God. I will also remember his unique humor.

Lisa, Laura, Aunt Maryellen and grandchildren, so very sorry for your loss. I have so many great memories of my dear uncle Harry. I remember singing instead of saying our evening prayer around the dinner table and his joyful laugh. With his great faith, he gave so much encouragement and charity to all he knew and truly made a difference in this world. I am sure he is smiling down from heaven at all if you as you celebrate his life. Hugs from us in SC.

Mariellen, , Lisa, Laura and grandchildren, our deepest sympathies on your loss. I remember my sweet Uncle Harry as having the warmest heart for all he met. I have fond memories of him leading us in singing the prayer "God is good" around the dinner table. I was a fearful child but his joyful spirit inspired me at a critical time in my young life. HIs faith in Jesus Christ lifted him to a tireless life of service and encouragement to others. He set the example for strong fatherhood and devotion to marriage. I wish we could be there to hear the stories as you celebrate his life. Hugs from us in South Carolina.
