WAUNAKEE- Dorothy June (Schwenn) McNicol, age 96, of Waunakee, died on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017. She was born in Mount Horeb on June 12, 1921, to Clarence and Alvina (Lehr) Schwenn. Dorothy graduated from Mount Horeb High School with the class of 1940. She moved to Madison where she has spent her entire life. She worked at Montgomery Wards and Oscar Mayer for almost 30 years. Dorothy met and married the love of her life, Donald McNicol and was married April 27, 1944. She has been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, its GLCW and former Keenagers, Bethel XYZ and Local Union 538. Dorothy has been a Good Samaritan to so many people who have been less fortunate always willing to help in any way she could. We all will miss her so much. Dorothy is survived by three children, Duane of Lake Mills, Diane McNicol of Madison and Donald Jr. of Columbus and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; and a wonderful friend, Ron Jones. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Dr. Musa and his staff for their wonderful care throughout the years and also the Waunakee Manor staff for their compassionate care and support during her brief time there. To Diane and family-I met your mom many years ago and thought of you and her recently and wondered about both of you. She and Ron would drop in at my office just to chat and he would refer to himself as her chauffeur. They had great personalities and enjoyed each others company. My thought are with you today. We are in Gulf Shores, AL and just learned of your Mother's passing. Fred and I are sending our sympathies and are so sorry we missed the funeral. Your Mom and Dad were always so kind to Fred and for that he is grateful. I'll always remember your Mom as part of my childhood, from the braid fiasco to Rusty and my Mom's war with him over her tree. I loved your Mom's laugh, her red hair and her always manicured nails. Don, Duane and Diane--
Sorry to hear about your mom; somehow missed in the State Journal or we surely would have come to her services. lots of memories of your mom/family growing up. Duane and I got caught smoking in your basement; Duane and I spent countless hours in Don;s 50 Ford in the garage; your mom saved "Duke Walsvik" when he was tightly wrapped around a tree. Your family was an essential part of our growing up.
