John Francis Petranyi

MIDDLETON-John Francis Petranyi, age 95, died on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017 at Sienna Crest Assisted Living Center under the wonderful care from Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on March 6, 1922, in Arad, Rumania to Erzebet Denes and John Petranyi.  He arrived in the United States with his mother at Ellis Island in November 1929 two years after his father immigrated to the United States.  John graduated from Stuyvesant High School, an elite New York City high school.  In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and spent time overseas.  He was honorably discharged in 1946.  John married Mildred Carsok on August 26, 1950 in New York City.  He graduated college with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1952.  In 1955, John was employed by NASA in the Apollo guidance and navigation system and resided in Oak Creek, WI. where he and Mildred raised three wonderful boys.  The program closed on Dec. 31, 1971.  He found employment in Madison at one of the sub divisions of Dairy Equipment Company.  In retirement John resided in Middleton and enjoyed traveling, dancing and walks in the Middleton Conservancy. John is survived by his son Mark (Mary) Petranyi, Waunakee; granddaughter Sara Petranyi (Markevius Burnett), Madison and a cousin Oscar (Ilona) Denes, Port St. Lucie, Florida.  He was preceded in death by his sons Paul and John and wife Mildred (Carsok).  A Celebration of John’s Life will be held at 4 PM on Monday, November 13, 2017 at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity of choice.
