Robert Allen Melland

MADISON-Robert A. “Bob” Melland, age 72, of Madison, passed away on Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, at Karmenta Care Center. He was born on May 18, 1945, in Madison, the son of Selmer and Dorothy (Grinde) Melland. He was a member of Eastside Evangelical Lutheran Church.  Robert was very involved with his family and church.  He lived his whole life in Madison, attending Madison Central High School. After miraculously surviving an industrial accident, Bob was an active member of the community working with MARC and the Independent Center of Dane County. He enjoyed music, stock car racing and sports, especially Wisconsin sports, including the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers and Milwaukee Bucks. Prior to his accident, he was an umpire for the Madison softball leagues. He was always very active and had great drive and motivation. Robert is survived by his daughter, Rita (Amy Johnson) Melland; sisters, Karen Wehrmann and Carol (Jim) Rosga; brother, Russell Melland; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and great-great nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Merita Melland; brothers, Gordon Melland, Thomas (Pamela) Melland and Gary Melland; brother-in-law, Charles Wehrmann; niece, Debrorah Cornell; and great-nephew, Kirk Smith. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at noon on Saturday Dec. 2, 2017, with the Rev. Peter Schlicht presiding. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. A luncheon will follow burial at the ESQUIRE CLUB, 1025 N. Sherman Ave., Madison. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
