Ruby Lillian Meyer

MIDDLETON-Ruby Lillian Meyer, age 91, slipped peacefully to the other side on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017 at her home in Middleton, Wisconsin. In the last 3 months of Ruby's life a series of events—some might even say miracles—led to a painful discovery and the unveiling of a profound and remarkable woman. A woman with extraordinary compassion, a wry, quick wit, and astounding brilliance. A woman who laughed, and cried, for the first time in decades. Her story is truly stranger than fiction and perhaps you will hear it one day.   There are only two ways to live your life: as though nothing is a miracle, or as though everything is a miracle.                  ~Albert Einstein  Ruby Lillian Johnson was born December 2, 1925 on the family farm in the town of Douglas, Wisconsin, the daughter of John and Mildred Butterfield Johnson. She married Carl Earnest Meyer on August 15, 1952 at Devil’s Lake National Park.   Ruby was a dedicated teacher for over 35 years. In her early 20s she taught in Colorado and New Mexico. Some of the schools she later taught in were located in Endeavor, Portage, Middleton, and Ridgeview, Wisconsin.  Ruby's entire life was spent learning, growing, caring and teaching. She loved her family, reading, discussing politics, and sharing her opinion.   Ruby is survived by sons Carl Eugene (Barbara) Meyer, John Frederick Meyer (Jane Sybers), and daughter, Janet Lynn Pulvermacher (AJ Regali), grandchildren, Jessica Greenslet (Ben Johnson) and Melissa Virgin of Middleton, Wisconsin, Mason Meyer of Norfolk, Virginia, and great grandchildren, Grant and Tessa Virgin, Brody Greenslet and Grace Meyer, her younger sister, Grace (Tunes) Thalacker of Harrisville, and sister-in-laws Marie Johnson of Endeavor and Beth Johnson of Montello.  Ruby was preceded in death by her loving husband Carl, her parents, John and Mildred Johnson, her brothers John (Mel) and Robert Johnson, and her step-daughter Betty Primer, Wellington, Colorado.  Ruby would like to express her love for the extended family who impacted her life over the years; Donna (James) Kraus of Endeavor and their children Mary and Ace Krause; Pat Breakfield of Wellington, Colorado and her children, Jeremiah and Samantha Cordova; Kathy Huber and her children, Amy and Naomi, and Faith Ambrose.  Visitation will be held on Thurs. Nov. 9, 2017 from 5 - 7 pm at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton. A Memorial Service will be held Fri.
