Mark S. Brownfield

OREGON-Mark S. Brownfield, age 69, of Oregon, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017. He was born on Feb. 6, 1948, in Denver, Colo., the son of Kemper and Evelyn Brownfield.  Mark graduated from Colorado State University in 1979, receiving a Ph.D. in Anatomy. He then completed his post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California San Francisco in 1981.  Mark worked as a Professor for the University of Wisconsin, School of Veterinary Medicine for 35 years. Upon his retirement in October, 2016, he was granted Emeritus Status and enjoyed continued work in his lab with many talented personnel.  Mark enjoyed history, science, nature, animals, photography and learning. He was a loving father, an eager scientist and good mentor to his children and students. Mark will be remembered as an inspiring person; very considerate, compassionate and always willing to assist others. He is survived by his daughter, Marialisa Brownfield; son, Andrew Brownfield; their mother, Jane Mahoney; brothers, Ned and Joseph Brownfield; and many other family and friends.  Memorial services will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 4 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, followed by a celebration of his life with food and fellowship in Gunderson's Community Room. In lieu of flowers, Mark would have wanted to provide financial assistance to veterinary students through the Veterinary Medicine Scholarship Fund.
