COTTAGE GROVE-Roberta Rae Ferge, age 74, of Cottage Grove, passed away on Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, at Agrace HospiceCare in Madison. She was born on Sept. 3, 1943, in Madison, the daughter of Ralph Vernon and Ruth Marion (Shaw) Rydberg. She married Richard Gordon Ferge, her childhood sweetheart, on Jan. 30, 1960. Together, they raised three children. Roberta worked for the Wisconsin Dept. of Revenue, retiring in 2000. After retirement, she took a part-time position with The Herald Independent for five years. Roberta also joined the Red Hatters for adventure, fun, and new friends. She had a special love of animals; raising poodles, Yorkshire terriers and later, a variety of birds, housing over 30 at one point. Roberta had a motorcycle license and loved riding with her husband. Other hobbies included reading, garage sale-ing, the Packers, Packman, Paison’s pizza and Parthenon gyros. She was a longtime member of Bashford United Methodist Church. Roberta is survived by her husband, Richard Gordon Ferge; daughter, Deborah Dawn Monson; sons, Dwight Scott Ferge and Douglas Ross (Patricia) Ferge; grandchildren, Scott Michael (Jessy) Ferge, Adam Phillip Monson, Mitchell Forest Monson, Ethan Hunter (Katie) Monson, Katherine Anne Ferge and Abigail Jean Ferge; sisters, Ruth Austin of Spring, Texas, and Kathleen Maier of Madison; brother, John (Delores) Rydberg of LaCrosse; and three great-grandchildren, Chasity Leona Ferge, Aliyah Michelle Ferge and Hazel Jane Monson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Vernon and Ruth Marion Rydberg. A private visitation and service will be held for immediate family. Final resting place will be Roselawn Memorial Park in Monona. Memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare.

I worked with Roberta at DOR prior to my retirement in 1997. She was dedicated, loyal, caring and VERY dependable. It was a privilege to know and work with her. My sincere sympathy to her family at this time.

Sorry to hear of Roberta"s passing. I worked with Roberta at DOR for many years before my retirement in 2000. She was a great lady to work with and always willing to do whatever was needed at work.
My deepest condolences to you and your family.
P.S. I have put the old kitchen cabinets to good use that you gave me long ago!

Dear Dick, siblings and family, We think of our next door neighbors on Roigan Terrqce in Monona with great fondness. Our long past beloved moms enjoyed playing games. After Ruth passed, Roberta became Dolores's best friend. Mom would always glow when sharing about Roberta. I can see them sitting and chatting in Ruth's living room and on the grassy median between our driveways, but the best was watching them in an intense board game in Ruth's kitchen.
