Richard W "Bill" Williams
December 11, 1956 - October 28, 2017
Obituary
MADISON-Richard W. “Bill” Williams, age 60, of Madison, passed away from liver cancer on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017. He was born on Dec. 11, 1956, the son of Ted Sr. and Carol (Hudson) Williams. Bill was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He was always willing to lend a hand even when it was physically difficult for him to do so. Bill liked to watch the Packers and Badgers and would call his dad to be sure he knew when the next game was on tv. He kept his sense of humor and a positive outlook throughout his two year battle with his disease and was an inspiration to his loved ones. Bill is survived by his father, Ted (Jeanne); siblings and their families, Tony, Kathi (Joe), John (Peggy), Andrew, David, Mike, Andrea and Matt; his girlfriend, Shirley DeWitt; sister-in-law, Sandra Williams; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol; and brothers, Ted Jr. and Tom. A Celebration of Life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 12 noon, on Friday, Nov. 10, 2017. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. His family would like to thank the Madison VA for their exceptional care over the years; particularly David Pfister, Dr. Matt LoConte, and Sarah Rogers for their more recent care and support. We would also like to thank Karie Schmidt and those in the UW Radiology Department and the wonderful people from Porchlight, where you may direct memorials if you so desire. Very, very sorry to hear about the passing of "Bill" Williams. We had a lot of serious talks and laughter also. He always extended himself for the sake of others. He was a true American hero, Army veteran. He will be sorely missed. Christopher Griffin

Bill was a father figure and my best friend. We met at the VA in Madison in 2015 and became friends in the waiting room of the ER. I moved down to North Carolina in August and spoke with Bill every week, we even had a mini vacation planned to bring him down here for a few days in November. I never got to say goodbye, or that I loved him for the last time. I did send him a care package 2 weeks ago that his brother Mike said he enjoyed. Rest Well Billy, and I'll see you on the other side. I'm going to try to drive up to Wisconsin this week and say my final goodbyes. His girlfriend Sherylie was a mother figure to me, and I need a way to contact her. If anyone can please tell her to call Stephanie at 828-305-1235 I'd love to speak with her.

I met Bill in 1993 and he's been one of my very best friends ever since. He was easily the most generous and kindest person I've known.I have 25 years of great times and great memories to remember Bill by.I remember the first time Bill went to miller park in Milwaukee. We went to see the brewers play the cubs and the look on Billys face when we walked into that brand new state of the art ball park was priceless.I'll miss ya brother your buddy jay Kroeber.
