Obituary
MADISON, WI-Edna L. Ahrensmeyer, age 102, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, at Heritage Monona. She was as wonderful a wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma as one could ever want. The love of her life was her family and home. She will be remembered for her kindness, love for her family, and amazing baking and cooking talent. She had a “wonderful life.” Edna was born July 16, 1915, in Mifflin Township, Iowa County, Wis., the daughter of Wilbur and Lela (Hammill) Liddicoat. She and her brothers, Everett and Emmett, were the first surviving triplets in the State of Wisconsin. They grew up on the family farm, without electricity, through the Great Depression, but were always happy together. Edna graduated from Linden High School (1932) and attended Madison Business College. She worked for the US Armed Forces Institute for 11 years. In 1938, she married Roy Ahrensmeyer. Together they operated a grocery business on Atwood Avenue from 1950-1955. They enjoyed many years at their cottages in Winter, Wis. and Holcombe, Wis. She was preceded in death by Roy, her beloved husband of 57 years, in 1995, and her bothers, Royal, Clarence, Gordon, Leonard, Everett and Emmett. Edna is survived by her children, Beth (Robert) Olson and Alan (Donna Dix) Ahrensmeyer; seven grandchildren, Diane Hesse, Mitchell (Sara) Olson, Anne (Robb) Koseor, Kit Ahrensmeyer-Laibly, Tim (Vicki) Magnor, Beth Di Loreto, and Amy Magnor; and 11 great-grandchildren, Spencer, Elizabeth, Sam, Alexa, Cam, Joey, Tess, Kayla, Andrew, Francie, and Quincy; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11 a.m. at MONONA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 606 Nichols Rd., Madison, on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Lunch will be served following the service. Entombment to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. It was a big deal for my sister and I to occasionally spend a few days with Aunt Edna and Uncle Roy when we were little shavers. The first movie I ever saw in a theatre was "Oliver!" and it was because Aunt Edna took us. She also would take us via the city bus to the old Manchester's department store on the Capitol Square because she knew how excited Janice and I would get when the Elevator Lady would say, "Going up" or "Going down". It was also a big deal to sit at the swivel stool in the Kresge building and order a fountain drink. I still have the little necklace she bought me over 50 years ago. I can't wear it, though, because it only is big enough to go around the neck of a very little girl. I write these memories because I always felt deeply loved by Aunt Edna--and not because she would buy me things, but because she would make me (and Janice) feel oh-so-special. Had Janice and I not had the opportunity to spend overnights in Madison on Center Avenue, I likely would have not known the depth of dear Aunt Edna's heart. She was a gem. ~P

Everyday was memories for us here at heritage. Edna was so loved by everybody. We would get her up in the morning to take to breakfast an she will say "that's all I'm tired" we would take her back to sit on her couch an watch tv. At lunch time we say "U ready grandma" she will reply " I GUESS SO". On our breaks we have sat there with her just to talk. We learn alot about the old days an how she was the first survive triplets in Wisconsin. We seen alot of pictures we would sit there laughing an talking. And when it was time for bed she will always say "OH HONEY THANK YOU". From me been gone for the jobs for several months due to surgery i always stop by to see my edna. I got that call telling me to come see grandma. I rush over an bend down an whisper in her ear to ask her was she tired she shook her head at me telling me "yes". She was our grandma at hertiage. Grandma Edna you will be dearly miss.

Your eclairs are one and a million. Christmas was always complete when one had an eclair from the "cold room" at Grandma Grace's. May you be in peace and have found Grandma Grace!!!
