Mark D Peter

OREGON/ DUBUQUE, Iowa- Mark D. Peter, born Sept. 13, 1952, in Dubuque, Iowa, died Oct. 12, 2017, in his home. He graduated from Senior High School in Dubuque in 1971. After graduating Mark went on to serve in the U.S. Navy on the USS Henry B Wilson and the USS Norton Sound from Oct. 14, 1971, until leaving active duty on Aug. 8, 1975. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and maintained a lifetime membership with Wisconsin Traditional Archers. He worked as a carpenter and was a member of the Wisconsin Carpenters Local Union 314, working in Iowa, Texas and Wisconsin, retiring in 2007. He married Shirley A. Jenkins on March 20, 1981 and together they had three children; Kim (Todd) Kerkenbush of Dubuque, Iowa, Kevin (Megan) Peter of Hermon, Maine, and Keith (Danae) Peter of Fitchburg, Wis. Mark is survived by his wife Shirley; his children; grandchildren, Alex, Ryan, Sean, and Luke Kerkenbush along with Aurelius and Elliott Peter; his brothers and sisters, Lee Ann (Rick Merkle) Peterson, Laurie (Tim) Leibold, Lynn (Mike O’Shea) Shroeder, Tony Peter, and John Peter. He is further survived by his mother-in-law Bernita B. Jenkins; brothers-in-law, Tim D. Hodgkins, and Allen N. (Vanessa) Jenkins; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Donald J. and Margaret A. (Cripe) Peter; his grandson, Eric Kerkenbush; sister-in-law, Kathy Hodgkins; and his father-in-law, Charles W. Jenkins. Funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 1 p.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. A light luncheon will be held immediately following the service.
