MONONA-Wayne Chase, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2018, at St. Mary’s Care Center. He was born in Exira, Iowa, the son of Wesley and Laura (Nielson) Chase. Wayne graduated from Exira High School and upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1957, serving his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. From there he went on to serve at Kure Beach, North Carolina, Otis Air Force Base, Mass., and Truax Field, Madison Wis. While at Otis AFB, he was stationed for two and one-half years on the Texas Towers, an early warning radar sentinel located 120 miles off the Massachusetts coast in the Atlantic Ocean. Wayne was a diesel mechanic working on diesel-driven generators. While stationed in Madison, Wayne met and married Barbara Cuccia. He was discharged at Madison in 1961, as an Airman First Class. Following his discharge, Wayne and Barbara moved to Atlantic, Iowa, for a year where he was an appliance mechanic at Sears, Roebuck. They returned to Madison where Wayne was then employed by Madison Kipp Corporation as a diecast operator and then a quality control inspector. He retired from Kipp after 35 years and in retirement, enjoyed golfing, reading and watching sports, including the Wisconsin Badgers, Iowa Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers. Wayne and Barbara raised two children, Randy and Sandra. In 2010, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and traveled to Italy to visit relatives and sightsee in Palermo, Rome and Florence. Wayne is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Randy (Peggy Both); daughter, Sandra; grandpuppies, Houston, Poquito, Scooter and Gus-Gus; brother, Gerald (Janice) Chase; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Wesley; mother and step-father, Laura (Donald) Smith; brother James (Helen) Chase; and sisters, Nellie (Dan) Nelson and Mary (Harry) Denney. I gew up with Waynes son Randy. We became brothers and Wayne and Barb became mom and dad. We would sit for hours and debate and he was always there as a mentor and guide. I shall miss his smile and laugh and him calling me Charlie....

Oh my Uncle Wayne. He was so much fun being around when I was a kid. I use to sit with him and try to straighten out his fingers and he would just laugh. Even though Wane & Barb lived a ways from us, it always was so much fun getting together for family things. We use to bet on Wisconsin VS Nebraska, I think I owe Wayne a lot of tee shirts.

I will always remember how much a of 'Dad' you were to me. You put up with obnoxious sleepovers, loud music, running Sandi and all over the place, and hardly picked on my choice of football teams. Love you always, miss you much! Kristi

Dear Barb, In recent years we would see you and Wayne at the Dean Clinic. Age does do that to some of us. But it was always nice to visit and just to keep up contact. We are saddened to know that Wayne has left what is familiar to us who live on here, but we believe this dear, kind , mild mannered man truly is in the glorious presence of of God. What a reunion awaits us all. At our age we have all lost loved ones to death, yet we are taught to believe that we will all be reunited in a "better place". May you find comfort in a life time of the good memories. We appreciate the many times you have reached out in friendship and look forward to many more of those chance meetings. Friends, Ross and Lucy
