Obituary
MAZOMANIE/MIDDLETON-Edmund F. Wankerl, age 97, of Middleton, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017. He was born on January 7, 1920, in Plain, Wis., the son of John and Bertha (Beer) Wankerl. Ed served in the Merchant Marines during World War II on board the victory ship "Rockland". He married June Thoni in Billings, Montana in 1953. She preceded in him in death in 1978. Ed was employed as a Truck Driver for Oscar Mayer, Inc for over 30 years, retiring in 1981, and also was a member of the Teamsters Union. He was a member of the Knight of Columbus and had a variety of interests including, making maple syrup, volunteer community service, woodworking, boating, and gardening. He loved playing cards (especially euchre) and “taunting” his friends. Ed was an avid Packer fan, but his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family. Edmund is survived by; six sons, Jason (Maggie), Richard, Mark (Kristine), Donald (Shelly), Tony, and Thomas (Jennifer); 12 grandchildren, two sisters, Marie Vogt, Delores Sunder; three brothers, Joseph (Lucille), Louis, and Tony. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St., Cross Plains, at 11:00 am on Friday, September 15, 2017, with Father Gary Wankerl presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 am until the beginning of the mASS on Friday, September 15, 2017. Burial will be held at St. Barnabas Catholic Cemetery, Mazomanie at 2:00 pm with military rites. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
