MADISON- Robert H. “Doc” Moore, age 94, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017. He was born on March 25, 1923, in Madison, the son of Harold and Evelyn (Larson) Moore. Doc attended high school at Madison East, in the graduating class of 1940. He was united in marriage to Shirley (Pauze) Noles-Moore on Oct. 25, 2014. Doc went on to join the ROTC at UW-Madison where he received a junior graduate degree in liberal studies in 1942. He continued his education at Marquette University and graduated as a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1945. With determination and passion to help others, Doc joined the U.S. Navy in 1945. He was sent to boot camp with the Marines at Oceanside, CA. A natural leader, he rightly achieved the role as 2nd Lieutenant. Doc later transferred to the USS Warhawk with the First Marine Division. When the war ended, he returned to Seattle for decommissioning. He was then transferred to Ft. McClellan, Ala. to the Army. Before reporting to Ft. McClellan, Doc married his childhood sweetheart, Patricia. After serving a year in Ft. McClellan, he was transferred to Great Lakes in Illinois for discharge. Doc had proudly served 23 and a half years, retiring as Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy. Doc found great pride in his dental practice. He was a dental consultant for WPS and was pivotal in the push to add fluoride to the water in Madison. Doc happily practiced in Madison for 40 years. He was an active supporter of many organizations. Doc was a Member of American Legion Post 481, life member of VFW 8483 and WWII National Museum, as well as the USO, Reserve Strength Organization, National Wildlife Federation and National World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. He was also a life member of Reserve Officers Association, life member of Disabled American Veterans Association, a member of Retired Officers Association, Member of Fleet Reserve Association, Northeast Optimists, Eastside Businessmen's Association, National Geographic, and a member of the NRA. Doc also held the position as Secretary and Treasurer of Dane County Dental Society. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and relished in the time spent gardening. Doc acquired a great love for archeology, and history. Doc is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Noles-Moore; sons, Robert "Bob" (Denise) Moore, David Moore, and Bradley (Sharon) Moore; daughter, Pamela Pomranke; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three step-daughters, Mary Noles, Teresa (Lance) Noles-Puccio, and Kiersten (Danny) Moniz; and step-son, Scott (Kelly) Noles. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife of 60 years, Patricia Moore; sister, Bonnie Moore; granddaughter, Mackenzie Moore; and great-grandson, Brayden Turnbill. Funeral services will be held at BRISTOL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 6835 County Hwy N, Sun Prairie, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, with Pastor Jen Johnson presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST, FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. We lived across the street from the Moore's on Dennett Drive. There were many tree trimming parties with the families and Mary O'Dea. I (Steve) installed their first TV antennae after John (Pat's brother) had built the TV from a Heath Kit so we could watch the Badgers in the Rose Bowl. So many memories, we were fortunate to have known Doc and the family. Happy hunting Doc, RIP.

We met Bob after he joined the Noles family. His humor and positive attitude made him easy to get to know. Having the dental background in common afforded sharing some great stories. He was a wonderful man.

My sister Carolyn and I were Bob and Pat's niece and nephew. We spent a lot of time with the Moore family over on Waunona Way in our teenage years, going over there via bicycles or ice skating across bay to visit. Bob and Pat were gracious to welcome us over there all of the time, and we spent a lot of time in the water and on the ice. I remember Brad falling in the water as a little kid off of the Armstrong's pier and my dad rescued him. Carolyn got her fingers squished in a door and lost a whole bunch of fingernails. Bobby and I went spearfishing for gar (never got one), bought ice cream cones at the Caravelle Drive In from the boat, and pulled this little styrofoam boat behind their boat that could be tipped over with just a little rocking. We swam out to Dennis Ryan's raft, and were on it when it split in half (Dennis used more cuss words in the next 5 minutes than you could believe possible). We all played 10 Steps Around the House, Kick the Can, Red Light Green Light, and ucher. We listened to the WLS top hits. Brad or David threw a firecracker out of Bob's brand new Vistacruiser, and Bobby hit a phone pole while watching that firecracker, that was the only phone pole in the entire block close to the road.
Uncle Bob was MAD!
Uncle Bob used to fish and cook, and he was very good at both of them, and then he would feed all of us. I still enjoy eating fish because of those days. Uncle Bob, Aunt Pat, my mom and dad, and Grandmother Gigie used to have these wonderful political discussions. Uncle Bob was a staunch Republican, and my parents were Democrats. I can only wonder what they would be discussing now! Bob - you and Pat raised a really wonderful bunch of kids, and I was a very lucky guy to share those moments and memories with the Moore family. I remember when I was a littlegirl,I used to suck my thumb. Uncle Bob used to tell me that if I kept on sicking my thumb it would get smaller and smaller> and I wouldn't have any thumb left. IT didn't make me stop sucking my thumb< but when ever I took my thumb out of my mouth I would look at it to see if it had gotten any smaller. It took several years before I trealized that he had just been joking with me.
