When he was two his father, passed away. Ted and his mother moved to Abelman, Wis. to live with his grandmother, Dina Veith Rau. Three years later Dina passed away and Ted and Alma moved to Madison, living in multiple apartments through the assistance of Mother’s Pension. Alma passed away when Ted was twenty-two, and soon after he was drafted by the U.S. Army and stationed in Germany. He served from 1955 to 1957.  After his discharge, Ted moved to Oshkosh. While working for Hoffmaster Printing he took classes from the UW Extension in Horticulture Therapy. He spent three years teaching Horticulture Therapy at nursing homes in Oshkosh until he started to work for Wal-Mart. He retired from Wal-Mart in 2011 and moved to Sun Prairie. Ted enjoyed going to Maywood Lodge and impressing with how many pancakes he could eat. Other than his pancake exploits he was passionate about his nutrition and enjoyed eating as many green vegetables as he could. Ted was always game to go fishing and was always ready to help. He wished to donate his body for research; unfortunately his wish could not be honored. Ted is survived by numerous relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  A memorial service, followed by Military Honors, will be held at BETHLEHEM LUTHERAN CHURCH, 300 Broadway Dr., Sun Prairie, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, with Pastor Steve Era officiating. Words cannot begin to describe how I felt about Ten Hagen. Ted was a man of integrity and service both to our country and to the people he encountered throughout his life. I can't remember a time when Ted wasn't looking out for the needs and interests of others. Ted was a very good friend to my father and mother and a wonderful blessing to our entire family . He will be greatly missed. Paul Graves

Ted was a close family friend all of my life. My father gave Ted and his mother chiropractic treatment and helped them establish a diet that Ted attributed to he longer than expected life. He was a great man and we haven't been able to be in contact much with him since he moved to Sun Praire area. We didn't even know of his passing until we got a returned Christmas card and today I finally took time to look him up. Ted was a very giving and generous person, and the stories he would tell me of my father (who passed away at age 45) I will cherish forever. Ted, may the Lord Bless you and I look forward to seeing you with my father and mother some day in Eternity! - Garrett Graf
