Obituary

MADISON - Rose Marie Schneider Strommen was born on July 9, 1926, to Adolph and Lena Schneider. While we tried to convince her on her 99th birthday that she should live to be 100, she was determined to see Jesus, her family and friends in Heaven. On October 17, 2025, at the age of 99 years, 3 months and 8 days she was ushered into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior.


Rose was born in rural Barneveld, Wis., the fourth of Adolph and Lena’s five children. She went to school in Hollandale, Wis., where she met and married LeVohn Strommen on July 5, 1942.


Rose and LeVohn had five children, Karen, LeVohn Jr. (Jay), Linford, Rob (Sheryl) and Todd (Cheryl); 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.


Rose worked at Oscar Mayer for 31 years. She was a member of Hollandale Lutheran Church, East Madison Baptist Church and City Church throughout her lifetime.  Rose loved serving the Lord and did so in many capacities: Sunday school teacher, Awana, choir, nursing home ministries, girl’s prison ministry, missions and serving the Laotian community. She fell in love with the people of Laos who were a part of the East Madison Baptist Church. With the help of a translator, she studied the Bible with them; shared with them who God is and His everlasting love for them. She shared the gift of salvation through faith in Jesus, and enjoyed visiting them in their homes to teach and support them in tangible ways.


Rose was preceded in death by her husband, “Vohn”; her daughter, Karen; and her daughter-in-law, Pam.


Survivors include her brother, Carl (Pat) Schneider; and sons, LeVohn (Jay), Linford, Rob (Sheryl) and Todd (Cheryl).


A memorial service will be held at ROSELAWN MEMORIAL PARK, 401 Femrite Drive, Monona, at 12 noon on Thursday, October 23, 2025. A visitation will take place at Roselawn from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your dear sweet mother. I would have attended her service however I just learned of her passing today. I called Jay but I am unable to contact others. My heart is gladdened with every memory of knowing and loving Rose Strommen, her faith and zeal for serving her Lord. During my 17 years as pastor of East Madison Baptist Church (1984-2000) Rose was a loyal friend and tireless worker. When a large group of Laotian believers suddenly showed up at our church seeking spiritual growth and community, Rose eagerly volunteered to teach them and minister to them. With the help of a teenage translator she taught them simple Bible lessons and answered their questions. She helped them access community resources, and organized English as Second Language classes . Fulfilling a call to missions she had experienced as a girl Rose became a model servant rejoicing in the lives of the many disciples she had privilege to lead. Rose was a true friend and faithful encourager to me, my family, and our church. While sharing sadness of a temporary loss, I join joyfully with my forever family of faith in celebrating a life well lived and now rewarded in Heaven. <<Greg Whitaker

Thank you very much Todd and Lin for calling us. Always sad to lose a mother and even more a true Matriarch. Disappointing to be so close to 100 and not make it. But at this age what joy for the way your mother lived with faith, love, joy, perseverance, and giving to others. It was our great joy to know her and to have her at a key time in our lives. Claudia & I, our children, our lives, and our values are all influenced and better because of Rose!
