Obituary
CROSS PLAINS - Robert L. Shields, age 98, passed away on Sunday, September 21,2025, at New Glarus Home. He was born on November 22, 1926, in Ontario, Wis., son of John and Elizabeth (Noffke) Shields.
Robert graduated from Ontario High School and honorably served his country with the U.S. Navy from 1944 - 1946. Upon returning to the States, Bob earned his bachelors’ degree from UW-Platteville. He was united in marriage to Bernadine Meyer on February 17, 1951, in Ontario, Wis.
Robert worked as a sales representative for Bristol Meyers for over 22 years, retiring on September 1, 1989. He was a member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Cross Plains and taught Sunday school classes for many years. Robert also served as treasurer for the Valley Home Cemetery Association and belonged to the Cross Plains American Legion Post 245.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing trips to Canada and taking care of the yard around his house. Robert also enjoyed Wisconsin sports, especially Badgers and Packers football but mostly treasured spending time and caring for his family.
Robert is survived by his sons, Randall (Christine) and Jeffrey (Jamie Kahl); grandchildren, Jeremey, Carsten, Amanda, Madelyn, Matthew, Michael and Elizabeth; great-grandson, Heath; and great-granddaughter, Aliyah. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadine; sons, Robert and Scott; parents, John and Elizabeth Shields; and brother, Leo Shields.
