FITCHBURG/RIPON-Douglas T. "Doug" Algar, age 59, of Fitchburg, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2017. He was born on Feb. 1, 1958, in Fox Lake, Ill, the son of Harold and Janet (Hartough) Algar. Doug married Darcy Winget on April 27, 1991 in Fond du lac, Wis. He worked as a commercial real estate appraiser. Doug enjoyed golfing and trying out many different courses with his buddies. He was an accomplished guitarist, playing in several bands throughout his musical journey. Doug came from a very close musical family and recorded songs with many family and friends. His love for music was unique. Doug enjoyed improvising as well as playing classics that made him happy. Doug is survived by his wife, Darcy; daughter, Andrea Algar; two sisters, Peg Algar and Robin (Bill) Hoebel; two brothers, Chip Algar and Ted Algar; brother-in-law, Dave McCormick; step-mother, Helen Algar; and father-in-law, Gary Winget. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Barb McCormick; and mother-in-law, Helen Winget. A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St, Oregon, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, with a jam session to be held from 12 Noon until 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be distributed to children pursuing musical talents. I had recently (mid-1970's) purchased an Ibanez Les Paul imitation Les Paul guitar and Ampeg SVT 500 Watt amplifier. Doug and several friends came over and Doug was just unbelievable at making that guitar sing. Another friend of mine (Steve Floyd) detecting my feelings of inadequacy, put his arm around my shoulder and said I shouldn't feel bad. :-) Doug had "it." He was a great guitarist, even then.

Just this past wednesday I took nevins and tessa to do mini golf and tessa was having a hard time finding a putter and Nevins went over and helped her to find one and told her that she needed one that was up to her waist and then she was having a hard time holding it right and nevins showed her how to and he said these are the things uncle Doug taught me! It made me laugh! :)

Doug & were friends when I first moved to Ripon in 1980 and we worked at Speed Queen in the machine shop. I gave him a ride home one evening when we played and sang Steam Roller together. Good times! Condolences to the family- Sue Japuntich Silber
