Douglas J. Rittenhouse

OREGON-Douglas James Rittenhouse, age 85, of Oregon, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2017, at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on March 4, 1932, in Kendall, Wis., the son of Leo Rittenhouse and Maria (Tiedje) Rittenhouse.  Douglas graduated from Lake shore technical college.  He served in the U.S. Army after High School.  Doug married Mary Adams Rittenhouse on July 12, 1952 in Sheboygan.  He met his wife while she was renting the apartment upstairs.  Doug was employed with the UW Madison as an Accountant.  He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with Mary Lou and family and working in his woodshop.  Doug was very proud of the wood workings that he constructed.  He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren.  The greatest enjoyment he had was being with his family, especially his grandchildren.  Douglas is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Lou;  five sons, James (Debra "Debbie") Rittenhouse, Daryl (Kristine) Rittenhouse, Robert "Rob" Rittenhouse, Roger Rittenhouse and Stuart (Michele) Rittenhouse; six grandsons, Jamie Rittenhouse, Joshua (Allyssa) Rittenhouse, Chadwick (Tracy) Rittenhouse, Patrick Rittenhouse, Matthew (Bobbie) Rittenhouse and Daniel Rittenhouse; four granddaughters, Jennifer (Reid) Bretz, Jolene (Brad) Pieper, Stephanie Rittenhouse and Ashley (Calvin) Wendt; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steven Rittenhouse in 1974; five brothers and two sisters.  Following Doug’s wishes, a Celebration of his Life will be held at the Senor Center on Saturday the 26th of August 2017. Private burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Kohler on Saturday the 12th of August 2017. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
