Obituary
MADISON - Steve G. Sheski, age 72, of Madison, Wis., peacefully transitioned on Thursday, June 25, 2026, returning home to his Lord and Savior.
Steve was born on April 23, 1954, in Slinger, Wis. He grew up there and attended St. Mary's Catholic Grade School, West Bend East High School and the former University of Wisconsin-Washington County, a two-year extension campus. Later he transferred to the University of Wisconsin - Madison, where he received both his bachelor's degree and master's degree in education.
He accepted a teaching position with the Stoughton Area School District where he happily spent the majority of his career, teaching grades 3 and 4 at Yahara Elementary School, grade 5 at Sandhill School, and grades 6-8 at River Bluff Middle School. He retired in 2017.
In addition to his love of teaching, Steve enjoyed running, gardening, and being out in nature. He made several trips each year to the "Great North Woods.” Some of his favorite destinations included Door County, Bayfield, and Rhinelander.
May God bless those family members who preceded Steve in death: his parents, Harry and Lucille Sheski; and his sister, Ann Rybolt.
May God continue to bless those family members who have not yet departed: Mary Thompson, Tom Sheski (Kay), Rita Wood, John Sheski (Cathy Donaldson), Harry Sheski (Joan) and Frank Sheski; as well as many relatives and close friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the CATHEDRAL OF ST. BERNARD OF CLAIRVAUX, 2438 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026, with Father Michael Radowicz presiding. A luncheon will follow the Mass at Gunderson East Funeral and Cremation Care. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, and also at the cathedral from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Thursday. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
