Obituary
STOUGHTON-Stanley Pollan was born in Chicago, Ill, raised in Duluth, Minn. and aged in Madison, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, after a short illness surrounded by his family. He enriched the lives of all who knew him, and practiced dentistry for 33 years at University Square Dental, Associates. Stan had a great passion for life, and his legacy will be carried on by his wife, children, and brother. He was predeceased by his older brother. Funeral arrangements will be with Gunderson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to United Way Dane County located at 2059 Atwood Avenue Madison, WI 53704. People wonder why I travel to Madison to see a dentist when I live in Milwaukee. If they knew Dr. Stan, they would not wonder. The most talented, engaging dentist one could ever find who treated people with dignity and had superb skills. He made dentistry look easy as only someone supremely talented could do. Absolutely one of my favorite people in this world and I will miss him dearly as my dentist and as a friend. I know how much he loved winter sports and being with his sons on trips and I'm glad he did a lot of that. My life is better for knowing Dr. Stan and my thoughts are with all those who loved and knew him.

We will miss our dear friend Stan terribly. He was a golden light at our annual retreat and a loving friend to so many. My deepest sympathy to Ellen, Rob, Scott, and Henry. Much love to you my friends, and I hope we can toast together to his life in the fall.

I played hockey with Stan for almost 20 years in Stoughton. We became friends, he worked on my teeth (even pulling hockey stick fragments out of them). He was one of the oldest guys in our league and yet he never faltered. While most athletes peak in the 30's or 40's Stan just kept getting better with age. A quality guy who will be missed dearly. Dr. Pollan is one of my very favorite people in the world. I always looked forward to going to the dentist because of him. He had a remarkable personality - fun, caring, interesting - he had it all. He always spoke so lovingly about his family and their adventures. He recently attended his son's graduation from dental school and was so proud. We always talked about all 3 of his sons and his wife during my appointments. He put his family first and often took long trips with them. I always felt great when I left his office - besides having a lot of great things to talk about, he was interested in hearing about my kids as well. He even talked about visiting my daughter in Portugal later this summer. She was very excited about it. I am devastated about his life being cut short. -Carey Fleischmann
