Obituary
STOUGHTON-Fern Virginia (Leikness) Larsen passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at Magnolia Gardens, Skaalen Nursing and Rehab. She was proud to be a lifelong resident of Stoughton, born Aug. 2, 1926, the youngest and last surviving daughter of Peter and Grace (Greig) Leikness. At the age of 18 she met her one and only love, Martin Larsen and they were married on Sept. 4, 1944. Together they raised six children. She loved her family dearly. Fern was fiercely independent and was the proud owner of her fully paid home in Stoughton. She enjoyed reading, traveling, walking and spending time with her favorite neighbor’s children until they moved to Verona. Later in life she was an avid solitaire and cribbage player. Fern loved bingo and music DVDs. She kept up with current local events by watching the Stoughton Channel on TV and was an enthusiastic Badgers and Packers fan. Fern is survived by her children, Marcia (Gordon) Schmitt, Michael (Linda) Larsen, Dr. Michele Ballering, Kristie (Gordy) Christy, Patricia Larsen and Darcy (Rick Petershack) Williams; grandchildren, Melanie Seffens, Martin (Sharri) Seffens, Ginger Larsen, Natalie Larsen, Zoe Ballering and Joel Christy; great-grandchildren, Ashley Seffens and Abbi Seffens; and great-great grandson, Myles Seffens. She was preceded in death by her husband Martin; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Williams. A memorial service will be held at SKAALEN NURSING AND REHAB CHAPEL, 400 Morris St., Stoughton, at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2017. Visitation will be held at the chapel from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. A special thank you to the staff at Magnolia Gardens, Skaalen Nursing and Rehab for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Skaalen Endowment Fund or the Stoughton Senior Center.

What a lovely picture of your mom! I'm very sorry for your loss, Michelle. It's never easy to lose a parent. I'm sorry that I will be in New York next week and won't be able to attend. I'd love to see you.

One of our "other" moms. I remember always feeling so welcomed by Fern when all her "kids" showed up at the house. So sorry Pat. Your mom was a wonder lady!

I remember Fern from when I used to go to the house as a kid, and through the years. She always had a great sense of humor. Sweet lady.

Larsen family, our most sincere condolences on the loss of Fern - marvelous matriarch of your family. We were blessed to have Fern as our best neighbor ever and loving grandma to our kids for 6 years. What wonderful memories our entire family has of Fern's eternal smile and chuckle as we visited, enjoyed her delicious baked treats, danced to Abba albums, listened to her whistle to cardinals, and played with all the funny monkeys and musical gadgets from her loving family! What an enthusiastic, energetic lady she was - young at heart, and unforgettable to all who had the pleasure of meeting her! Farewell dearest Fern until we meet again at the big dance party in the sky :) Love from your chosen family, the Devereaux's
