Obituary

JANESVILLE/MADISON, WI/VIRGINIA BEACH, VA-Caroline Carita Heath passed away of natural causes at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, on the morning of Thursday, June 29, 2017, with her family by her side. Her passing was unexpected but she was at peace with the universe. Caroline was raised in Janesville and joined the U.S. Navy in 1956.  She was discharged in 1958, after getting married to Ralston Heath.  Together they had four boys.  Caroline moved from Maryland to Colorado / Kansas while working as an LPN.  After her divorce in 1971, she moved back to Wisconsin to be near her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Tom Wileman and their three sons. Caroline received her bachelor’s degree at UW-Madison and master’s degree at UW-Whitewater. Before leaving Wisconsin to follow her dreams in Virginia she was active in the Sauk Trails Optimist club and knitting clubs, just to name a few, and a Chaplain at UW Health, St. Mary’s Hospital and Meriter Hospital. One of her favorite things was to dress up as clown at the Vilas Zoo at Halloween. (A smile can never be kept, it can only be given away.) In Virginia Beach Caroline continued as a Chaplain with Sentara hospital, Hospice Care and Eastern Shore Episcopal Church for many years.  Caroline will be missed by her four boys; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and all her family and friends worldwide.  She is preceded in death by her mother, Gladys; and father Robert. Her ashes will be spread over the ocean by her oldest son and his family that live in Florida. There will be a Celebration of Caroline’s life on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2017, with the location and time to be determined.  Please email ccheath@cc-heath.com for details and include your name and how you knew Caroline or continue checking www.gundersonfh.com for more details.  Caroline’s family wishes to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison and Janesville, especially the 7th floor SW nursing staff for taking wonderful care of her and to Caroline’s family and friends for their loving prayers, support and kindness. Donations, instead of flowers, can be sent to the Sauk Trails Optimist Club or any local Optimist Club.

Too many memories to write them all down about Aunt Caroline. .Loved when she and the boys would come to the house to hang out. Playing cards like 8 people solitaire. Letting me play dungeon's and dragons, staying up until 11pm to watch Sherlock home ( black and white ) with Roberts . . I still remember how "cool" it was that she had M-TV and watched the debut of Thriller. She always seemed to keep an upper lip on what ever life seems to deal... I will miss her . Ray Wileman

Caroline was a dear, dear friend who was and inspiration and , well just an amazing person! I met her at a Women's expo and we immediately hit it off! I still remember when I was 'fired' from a job and was devastated, she just said 'Good, time for you to move on!" We did lots of fun things together.. readings, Reikei, Cacy, chopping Christmas trees, and oh, she did so many things in her life! Hypnotized me out of smoking!! I'm sad I didn't know she was in Madison! A true Spirit! Enjoy your new life, Caroline!!! Stop by and see me........

Caroline and I became friends over ten years ago when we became Associate Chaplains at Sentara together. She was an extraordinary person - kind, thoughtful, compassionate, a good friend, bright and independent! She LOVED living at Virginia Beach. Am so grateful her family encouraged her to return to her roots in Wisconsin prior to her death. We met together on a regular basis for lunch until closer to her end. She is missed! In peace and love, Emily Harkins Filer
