So sorry to hear of John's passing. He was like a second father to me for many years. I learned so much from him and greatly enjoyed the years we were able to share our love of poultry and work together. So glad I made time and drove up to WI to visit him last summer. Great Man, I just hope I can impact others as much as he impacted my life.

My sympathy on the passing of Professor Skinner. He cultivated in me the love of showing cochin bantams and encouraged me to pursue my degree in poultry science. Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend the memorial gathering, as I will be judging poultry at the Jefferson County Fair, the same place where I first met John, as a 4-Her, while he judged my birds. Just yesterday, I was reading my mother's 1964 journal where she stated, "Professor Skinner stopped in with 27 baby chicks for David today." He helped so many of us get started! Sorry to hear of John's passing. John was a truly great and interesting person. One was always welcomed by John and his wife Jean. May he rest in eternal peace with Jean. Ken Ruhland

We are grateful to John's contributions to generations of Wisconsin poultry youth. John judged countless county fair poultry shows, conducted workshops for kids and was so instrumental in the development of the color version of the Standard of Perfection. He will always be remembered in the history of the fancy. On behalf of the Wisconsin Junior Poultry Association, we thank him for his generous spirit.
