STOUGHTON-Dorothy Brandenburg Hanson, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017. Dorothy Mae was born on November 11, 1928, the daughter of William and Marie Elizabeth (Olson) Brandenburg. Dorothy graduated from Beloit High School in 1946. On May 10, 1952, she was united in marriage to Jerald Wesley Hanson at Luther Valley Lutheran Church in Beloit. They were married for over 63 years. Dorothy went on to work for the Janesville Gazette, the State of Wisconsin, and Nelson Industries during her working career. She and her husband enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and overseas. Dorothy’s family and home were her pride and joy. She is survived by her three sons, Jeffrey Wayne (Holly) Hanson, Philip Scott Hanson and Stuart Paul (Karen) Hanson; and three grandsons, Elliot Michael Hanson, Isaac Joseph Hanson and Justin William Hanson. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Jerald; parents and parents-in-law; two brothers, Howard and Warren (Velma); and two sisters, Ruth (Ray) and Lucellia. Private family services were held. Dorothy was laid to rest beside her husband at Lutheran South Cemetery in Stoughton. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Meadows Assisted Living and Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care. We are very proud of our Mom. She was a very kind and compassionate person, who devoted a large part of her life to raising her three sons. We love you Mom! I had the privilege of knowing Dorothy when I was quite young. She was an amazing woman; so kind, so thoughtful and generous. I've always thought of her over the years and smiled. She left a lifelong impression on me. I'm so sorry for your loss, she was an incredibly special lady and a wonderful wife and Mother!

Its so sad to loose you mom and friend. At the same time I wanted you guys to know how grateful I am to have known your mom. I worked with her for many years at Nelson. I remember how kind she was on my first day working there. Her smile and soft voice made me feel at home and that is most likely why I stayed for 35 years. I can still hear her voice over the intercom paging me or one of my co-workers. At 9:45AM every morning, and again at 2:45PM in the afternoon she would announce "break time" and fifteen minutes later "breaks over". We would all gather the coffee pot and talk about important things like how to cook lutefisk or how to avoid eating it all together. I will always remember her kind soul and a big heart. This world will miss her, but her examples will live on in us forever. May God Bless you.
