Bill was born on Aug. 27, 1947 in Richland Center, the son of Clint and Bernice (Patch) Borton.  He graduated from Richland Center High School in 1965.  Bill then attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, graduating with his bachelor of science in Civil Engineering, and later obtaining his Professional Engineer designation.  During his last year of college, he married Sally Ann Chellevold on Aug. 17, 1968. Bill is survived by his wife, Sally of 48 years; daughter, Rebekah (David) Knab of Alpharetta, GA; two grandchildren, Caroline and Ryan; brother, Robert (Ellen) Bender of Cazenovia, Wis.; sister-in-law, Susan (Carl) Huth of Richland Center; sister-in-law, Nancy Chellevold of Naples, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Clint and Bernice; his brother, Ron Bender; as well as, his parents-in-law, Carl and Doris Chellevold; and brother-in-law, Steve Chellevold. Bill was known for his ability to combine his engineering and mechanical skills with his creative vision; as a result, he was able to design, build or fix just about anything that family, friends or coworkers could request.  He was also a skilled drummer, playing throughout high school and then in college.  His love of music and hobby of playing his drums brought him great joy throughout his life. His professional life was comprised of many successful roles, which included working as an engineer for Shell Oil in Dayton, Ohio, and then Terra Engineering and Construction, in Madison.  However, he found his dream career as Controller at The Bruce Company, in Middleton, working with the company until his retirement in 2009. One of my favorite memories is fishing in front of our cottage on Lost Land Lake and catching crappies. The Borton's were going past on their pontoon boat. When Bill heard we were catching fish in jumped onto our boat, Sally took their boat back to their cottage to get beer because she didn't want us to lose our fishing hole. We caught plenty for supper for the four of us and played euchre afterwards. A great summer afternoon. And heaven only knows how many games of euchre we played over all the years of our friendship. Bill will always hold a special place in our hearts. Bill and Sue Hein

I'm so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. Bill was my boss at Terra for several years and was always a very understanding and compassionate person. We had a great working relationship. Bill enjoyed being our boss when he was the lucky guy to take the ladies in the office out for lunch on Secretary's Day. Thanks for the nice memories, Bill. You will be sorely missed. Amy Lou Onshus

Sally and family -> My heartfelt sympathy to you. Bill was one of my best buds in HS an I will never forget the great times we had playing together in the best drum section in Wisconsin. Our "clean sweep" of the State contest our senior year was a feat that probably has never been duplicated. Drum on my friend. Kerry Freeman
