Madeline M Moen

MADISON - Madeline M. “Maddie” (Fick) (Hamm) Moen, age 96, died peacefully on November 20, 2025, surrounded by her family at The Courtyard in Fitchburg.  

Madeline was born on June 9, 1929, in Tomah, Wis., to Carl and Mary Fick and had two siblings, John and Grace. After moving to Madison to attend Edgewood College, she worked at Rayovac and then at Schoeps Ice Cream while raising her family. She loved music and theatre and had the voice of an angel.

Madeline was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and would do anything for her family. She treasured the time she shared with them and was so proud of each of their accomplishments and successes.

The Courtyard was Madeline’s home for the last 14 months and she cherished the care provided to her by the staff, with special thanks to Christine for her special attention and love to “Maddie.” Madeline left a lasting impact on the Courtyard community and her infectious smile and personality will leave a void. She formed some deep and meaningful friendships during her time there and we thank those friends for their special love and support, most notably Carole and Julie for encouraging her to keep going and watching over her.  

After having lived in Madison for most of her adult life, she and Percy moved to Monona in 2003. She loved her neighbors in Monona where she lived until 2024. She so enjoyed each of them and being able to watch the many young families that surrounded her; we thank them for the joy that they brought her.

Having shared her life and love with two wonderful husbands, she thought of herself as truly blessed for the time she shared with each of them, though “too short” as she would say. She was a strong and independent woman all the way through until life presented her with the challenges of aging.

She is survived by her children, Madelyn (Terry) Ackerman of Durango, Colo., Bob (Janet) Hamm of Madison and John (Joyce) Hamm of Monona; daughter-in-law, Patty Hamm of McFarland; stepchildren, Craig (Elaine) Moen of Driggs, Idaho, and Diana Moen of Madison;  grandchildren, Sean Ackerman, Amanda Hamm (Taylor Keul), Kyle (Cara) Hamm and Taylor (Kelsey) Hamm; and great-grandsons, Brantley and Percy Hamm; along with other family and friends.

Madeline was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; husbands, Forrest Hamm and Percy Moen; son, Scott Hamm; and step-grandson, Andrew Moen.

Through her 96 years of life and some challenges that she faced, she never lost her sense of humor or her love for all that surrounded her and her faith.

We will all have a large void in our lives due to her passing, yet we can continue to smile because we were lucky enough to have had the love of such a beautiful woman. She was a true light to so many, and her smile will remain with us forever.

We would like to thank the entire staff at The Courtyard at Fitchburg for the tender and unwavering care and for the staff at Agrace Hospice, most importantly Tonya and Desiree, for their amazing, loving care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 1, 2025, with Father Mark Foley presiding. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at Gunderson East Funeral and Cremation Care, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, 2025, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be gifted in Madeline’s name to Agrace HospiceCare, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, WI 53711.
