MADISON - LaJeane M. Hettrick, age 94, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on Feb. 11, 1927, in Adams, Wis., the daughter of William and Minnie (Malloy) Kunkel.
LaJeane graduated from Adams-Friendship High School, in 1945. She went to nursing school at Mt. Sinai via the cadet nursing program during WWII. LaJeane became a registered nurse working at various hospitals in Wisconsin, including Mt. Sinai, St. Elizabeth's, Theda Clark and St. Mary's. Her passion as a nurse was in labor and delivery. She left this career as her family grew and became her focus.
She married Harold Hettrick on Dec. 29, 1951, in Milwaukee, Wis. and together they raised 6 children and enjoyed 53 years of marriage. LaJeane knew how to stretch a dollar. She enjoyed sewing, antiquing, being the neighborhood welcome wagon, garage sales, and serving as the family matriarch of her extended family.
Her faith was very important to her. She was a member of Lake Edge Lutheran Church since 1957. She was a part of the altar guild, choir, quilting, and many other activities within the church.
LaJeane is survived by her children, Harlan (Deb) Hettrick, Gail Hettrick, Andrea (Ron) Debs, Denise Hettrick, Lynne Hettrick and Tracy Staven; grandchildren, Katie, Christine, Matthew and Dane; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Hettrick; her parents and her siblings.
Funeral services will be held at LAKE EDGE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4032 Monona Dr, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2021, with the Rev. Justin Dittrich presiding.
