Obituary
MONONA-James Patrick “Pat” Murphy, of Monona, passed away on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at his home at Heritage Monona. He was born on Dec. 17, 1946, in Savannah, Ill., the son of James and Shirley (Helander) Murphy. Pat graduated from Hastings High School in Hastings, Neb. Upon graduation he proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1975, serving three tours in Vietnam. In 1967, he survived the USS Forrestal Fire. Pat married Mary Louise “Louwy” Hosford on Nov. 1, 1969, in Sanford, Fla. He managed several bowling centers in Florida. Pat was also the owner of Murphy’s Palace Bar in Ravenna, Neb., from 1978 to 1990. For 18 years he worked as manager and district manager for Arby’s in Madison, and most recently owned and operated Heel and Sole Shoe Repair before his retirement. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and darts. Pat is survived by his wife, Louwy; son, Ryan (Carla); granddaughters, Piper and Rowan; brother, Bob Murphy; sisters, Michele (Nick) Markos and Siobhan (Kevin) Ebers; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 17, 2017. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
