Jerome E. Suter

MADISON –Jerome Edward “Jerry” Suter, age 81, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Select Specialty Hospital in Madison. He leaves is wife of 62 years, Marilynn (Hagen) Suter; his sons, Thomas Suter and Michael (Lisa) Suter; two grandsons, Mitchell Suter and Andrew Suter; two brothers, Marlowe (Delores) Suter and Kendrick (Gina) Suter; and many nieces and nephews. A lifelong resident of Madison, Jerome was born and raised on the south side to Alfred and Clara (Damm) Suter, who preceded Jerome in death.  In his early years, when Jerome wasn’t playing hockey or golf at Madison Central, he was working at his father’s business, Quality Hardware on Park St. (now Ace Hardware).  Jerome became an expert in fixing things and working with tools and was always ready and willing to help anyone who needed a hand. In his senior year of high school, Jerome met Marilynn at The Loft, a teenage hangout.  Shortly after graduation, Jerome enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean War.  Before leaving for his station in North Carolina, he and Marilynn, at 19 years old, married at Our Saviors Lutheran Church.  After his service in the U.S. Army, Jerome attended and graduated from Madison Business College in accounting and started working at Madison General Hospital (Unity Point Meriter).  His implementation of the first computer system is perhaps his proudest accomplishment. After retirement, Jerome was able to dedicate more of his free time to his favorite hobby, woodworking.  Many of his hand crafted pieces are still in use with many friends and family members.  Jerome had a passion for maintaining a perfectly manicured yard and could be found mowing or tending to his landscaping as soon as the snow melted every spring.  He enjoyed giving his grandsons (and many other youngsters) ride on his “tractor” whenever they were at “Grandpa Romie’s” house. Jerome’s quiet and gentle spirit will be missed by all of his family and friends.  To come together and share stories of Jerome, a Celebration of Life will be held at BISHOPS BAY COUNTRY CLUB, 3500 Bishops Bay Dr., Middleton, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 2017.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to: The American Family Children’s Hospital in memory of Jerome Suter, 1675 Highland Ave., Madison, WI. 53792-9945.
