Obituary
OREGON / WATERFORD - Evelyn Lavon “Evie” Jones, age 86, currently of Waterford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024, at Aurora Medical Center-Burlington. She was born at home on Dec. 1, 1937, in Fennimore, Wis., the daughter of Walter and Daisy (Harrod) Gard.
Evelyn graduated from Oregon High School in 1955. She was united in marriage to David Jones on Oct. 17, 1970, in Madison, Wis., at Trinity Methodist Church. She worked for the Dane County Sheriff’s Office beginning in 1971 and moved to the Dane County Coroner’s Office in 1973 where she retired from in 2004.
Evelyn loved traveling, especially her trip to Hawaii after retirement, spending time with her friends, family, grand and great-grandchildren, and rooting for the Green Bay Packers. No matter the situation, Evelyn was there for everyone - if you needed help, just wanted to talk, or had good news to celebrate, she had time for you.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, David; daughter, Brenda Jones; son, Michael (Amy) Jones; four grandchildren, Brandon (Patricia) Herfel, Lucia Jones, Gavin Jones and Augustus Jones; and two great-grandchildren, Payton and Paisley Herfel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Daisy; brothers, Harold (Marguerite), Melvin (Diane) and Eldon (Norma); and sister, Lois (Lien) Gard.
A celebration of her life will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024. A luncheon will immediately follow at the OREGON BOWL, 214 Spring St., Oregon. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12 noon until 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024. Interment will be at Graves Cemetery, Town of Rutland at a later date.
