Diane L Onstad

MADISON-Diane L Onstad, age 56, a native of Madison, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Meriter Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was born on Aug. 10, 1960, at St. Mary's hospital in Madison, the older of two children born to James and Phyllis (O'Conner) Beckman. Diane graduated from James Madison Memorial High School in 1979. As a young wife and mother, raising three children, Diane provided in-home child care for many years. She also worked at her family's business, Beckman Net Company. Diane grew up in her family home on the west side of Madison. The family has many fond memories including those of fun summers spent at her grandparent's cabin in northern Minnesota, and swimming at the lakes and pools around Madison. Her love of fun continued into her adult life; she loved nothing better than to take her grandchildren to lively places in the Madison area. Diane will be remembered for her strong devotion to her family and her faith. She selflessly gave of herself as her mother has progressed into dementia, she was there every day to give care and support to both her father and her mother. She could bring humor to every situation, no matter how hard it was. She was famous for saying "I don't know what's going on!" in many of her conversations. We will remember that and many more humorous moments from her life. We take comfort in knowing that she fell asleep in death, unaware that it was happening. Her son Shaun said, "Mom would have been heartbroken if she knew she was going to pass away and wouldn't be here to care for her loved ones." It was always about others, not herself. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Diane is survived by her parents, James and Phyllis (O'Conner) Beckman; sister, Linda (Mark) Webster; children, Shaun (Caitlin) Mulligan, Anthony Onstad and Nicole Onstad; grandchildren, Tavian Smith (age 15), Isaiah Dean (age 10), Roman Dean (age 4 months), Ellie Mulligan (age 10) and Riley and Kayleigh Mulligan (twins-age 9); former husband, Reid Onstad; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at KINGDOM HALL OF JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES, 542 Pleasant View Rd., Middleton, at 2 p.m. on Saturday May 6, 2017.
