Robert O. Marks

COTTAGE GROVE-Robert O. Marks, age 72, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017, at UW Hospital. He was born on Aug. 2, 1944, in Madison, the son of Alfred and Frances Marks. Bob graduated from Madison East High School. He married Rose Vieth on Oct. 19, 1968, at Hope Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in rural Madison where he was an essential part of Marks Farms Ltd., operating the business with his father and son. Bob was a member of Hope Lutheran Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He had a strong love for his family and farming and was the sort of person who could strike up a conversation with anyone. Bob enjoyed bowling and watching his favorite sports teams including the Packers, Badgers, Brewers and Monona Grove High School. Bob is survived by son, Todd (Sharon) Marks; daughter, Linda (Bob Lee) Marks; granddaughter, Christine (Logan) Ewing; great-grandchildren, Mason and Rylee Ewing; sister, Catherine Thies; sisters-in law, Avon (Jerry) Neupert and Janie Leis; brothers-in-law, Douglas Vieth and Daniel (Okson) Vieth; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Rose. Funeral services will be held at HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3702 County Hwy AB, McFarland, at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017, with the Rev. Beth Schultz-Byrnes presiding. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2017, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Lutheran Church or the American Diabetes Association.
