Obituary
MADISON - Muriel June (Kluever) Zwickey, age 89, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021. She was born on Jan. 19, 1932, to Amy (Slinde) and John Kluever, in Madison. Muriel graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1949. On Feb. 10, 1951, she married Roger Marvin Zwickey at the Brooklyn Methodist Church, and they celebrated 50+ years together.
Muriel worked for 10 years at the Boy Scouts office and enjoyed working with all those involved in scouting. She later went to work at Madison Public Schools in the Textbook Department, and from there to La Follette High School, where she enjoyed working for 26 years. Her love for La Follette never left her. She was especially fond of all her students in the Class of 1993.
She is survived by her sons, John (Carla) Zwickey, Madison, and Jeffrey Zwickey (Janet Oliver), Galesville; grandson, Joseph Zwickey, La Crosse; granddaughters, Jodi McLane (Bill), Milwaukee, and Kara Zwickey (Seth Spencer), Minneapolis; great-grandchildren, Julia Spencer and Michael McLane; and numerous nephews and nieces who she dearly loved. She is also survived by her brothers, Tom (Cathy), Mississippi, and Leroy (Maria), Oregon; her sisters, Karen Denk, Stoughton, and Sandra Vance, Knob Noster, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Virginia; her brothers, Harlow, Ralph, Fred “Fritz,” Eugene “Killer,” David, Joe, Earl and a baby brother.
A funeral service will be held at Gunderson East Funeral and Cremation Care, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, followed by burial at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

John and family, I remember your mom as a very friendly fave in LaFollette’s office. I worked a couple summers sorting textbooks at the start of summer to send out ones needing repair. As Mr. Wendt was my supervisor, I would go to the office at the start and end of each shift and Mrs. Zwickey always greeted with a smile. May the many memories and stories shared throughout the coming days and weeks bring peace and comfort.

Such a sweet, wonderful woman!! Class of '93 certainly adored her!! I remember when my diploma first came, it spelled "Brain" instead of Brian. Mrs. Z was so amazing and she took care of it for me!!

When I was in middle school, I had the privilege of being her neighbor on Camden Road. She always had snacks and a smile for me. I would go visit her for fun as a kid. During the winters, she would drive me to middle school because it was on her way and my mom had to work early. She got special permission for me to wait in the back hallway so I wouldn’t freeze. I always missed her after moving. Later, I was also apart of the ‘93 class at LaFollette who adored her. She truly was a rare soul! We all loved her so. She was so warm and good natured. Rest In Peace! It was a pleasure to know and love you, Mrs.Z.
