Obituary
Averell H. Lucy, age 59, of Madison, WI, passed away at his home on Sunday morning, April 16, 2017. Averell Howard Lucy was born on August 30, 1957, in Chicago, IL, the son of Arthur James and Juanita McZier Lucy. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business on December 23, 1994. Averell worked for Anchor Bank in Madison and then as a supervisor for Hewlett Packard in Madison. While attending the University of Wisconsin, Averell played on the UW Football team in the 1970's as a tackle. He was a very social person and enjoyed watching all Badgers teams, the Blackhawks, Bears and the CUBS. Averell is survived by his mother, Juanita Shepherd of Burlington, WI (Lake Ivanhoe); a son, Spencer Lucy of Appleton, WI; stepsister, Mary Knox of Shreveport, LA; and step brother, Jerry Shepherd of Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur James Lucy; and his stepfather, David L. Shepherd, Jr. A gathering of relatives and friends will be held from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday April 29, 2017, with a time of remembrance at 2:30 p.m. at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr. Madison, WI. Words can't express the loss of a loved one. Juanita, you nurtured obedience, discipline, respect, and love. Avery,displayed all of these things and will be remembered by all who knew him. You have taught us to place destiny in God's hands and by doing so we will endure his blessings, grace, guidance, and protection. We are family and will continue to walk in faith along with you. Avery, along with Dave, and our Mother will be forever present in your life. Your strength will endure, and prayers will forever be with you. My love for you has no boundaries, and thank god that you are my sister.

My condolences to Avery's family. I lost touch with my friend over the past few years but what I'll always remember is that deep booming voice greeting me with a hello along with that ever present smile. As a friend he was always there for you and he brought a smile to everyone's face when he was around. RIP Luce.

My thoughts are with Avery's family. I have known Avery for many years and consider him part of what we call the Hody family. He will be missed trying to sneak out at the end of the night stealth like as we joked about. He always had a smile and kind words. Words cannot express how sorry I am to hear that my dear friend Avery is gone. To his family my sincerest condolences. Spencer, I am thinking of you.
