Caroline M. Reierson

MADISON-Caroline Mary "Sweet Caroline" Reierson, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017. She was born on May 19, 1924, the second daughter of Marion and Margaret Williams. Caroline joined her big sister, Geneva in their rural Muscotah, Kansas home. Growing up, the family moved several times as her father was a Veterinarian. Her fondest childhood memory was riding their ponies (Dolly and Polly) to school. Caroline graduated from high school in Mason City, Iowa where she met her future husband, Harold. She graduated from Sioux City, Iowa as a Registered Nurse in 1942. Caroline lived in Minneapolis, Minn., where she married Harold Reierson on Sept. 22, 1945. They moved to Madison in 1946, and had their first daughter, Linda in 1948. Their second daughter, Shirley was born in 1952. Caroline worked at all of the Madison hospitals at one time or another, finishing her career at the East Madison Clinic, retiring early to help take care of her first grandson. She enjoyed playing cards with the neighbor ladies, fishing, traveling in their motor home, and attending her grandsons' hockey and other sporting events. Through the years, summer vacations were spent traveling throughout the United States. She was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and nurse. Caroline had a way of making everyone around her feel special by always putting others first. She was always there for her family. Caroline is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Robert) Gould; grandsons, Bradley (Vicki) Gould and Jonathan (Taryn Fellows) Gould; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Collin and Evan Gould; and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; daughter, Linda; sister, Geneva Perry; and brother-in-law, Harold Perry. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2017, with the Rev. Amanda Stein presiding. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare, Second Harvest Food Bank or Alzheimer's Association.
