MONONA-Cecile Onilee "Tillie" Dowling, age 89, of Monona, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on Dec. 5, 1927, in Lone Rock, Wis., the youngest of 10 children to Fred and Rebecca (Farley) Schlough. Cecile graduated from Lone Rock High School. She was united in marriage to Philip Dowling on April 18, 1953. Together they enjoyed attending Monona Grove athletic events, UW Madison basketball and football games and Brewers games. Cecile was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and St Ann's Society. She volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul, Luke House, and American Red Cross. Cecile enjoyed spending time with the Monona Coffee Club. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. Cecile grew beautiful roses in her gardens, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and hosting the holidays. She adored her grandchildren and loved being silly with them and following their activities. Cecile is survived by her husband of 64 years, Philip; sons, Philip and Patrick (Joan) Dowling; and five grandchildren, Brian Dowling, Kimberly (Mark) Keehn, Tina Dowling, and Parker and Brogan Dowling; and many loving family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mary Margaret Gilbertson, Marion Fowler, Lorraine Schlough, Dorothy Clare Harrass, and Mary Jean Rohn; brothers, John Schlough, Fred Lynn Schlough, Richard Schlough, and James Schlough; and brothers-in- law, Donald Dowling and Leroy James Dowling. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St, Monona, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 with Fr. Chad Droessler presiding. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Wednesday. Memorials may be gifted in Cecile's name to Immaculate Heart of Mary Building Fund or Olbrich Botanical Gardens. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

There are so many wonderful and happy memories of you and Uncle Phil while I was growing up. My biggest regret is that after moving from Madison, I could not come and visit as much as I wanted to. I don't think you even got a chance to meet my son Brett. I am comforted by the fact that you were blessed with so many years of life, and with a loving family. We're thinking of you all and remembering the many Schlough family gatherings and holidays. I'm attaching a couple of photos - one of Aunt Tillie and my mother (Dorothy Clare), and one of the Schlough women, back in the 50's. Aunt Tillie is a bit hidden in back.

Aunt Tilly was simply one of the kidnest people I have ever known and I could not have been luckier to have her as my Godmother! I remember the wonderful weeks in the summer when I was a kid and coming up to Monona and spending a few weeks with Aunt Tilly, Uncle Phil - Philip and Patrick. And I remember like it was yesterday going out for ice cream few times a week (think place was called Bridgestones) and spending quality time together. God Bless all of you and God Bless Aunt Tilly!
