Obituary
MONONA /MCFARLAND - Clyde J. (Bud) Carpenter passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. He was born on Aug. 8, 1934, in Hazel Green, Wis., to Clyde and Helen (Wilkinson) Carpenter.
Bud grew up in Grant County and graduated from Blue River High School in 1952. He went on to college at the UW- Platteville. While in school at Platteville he enlisted in the U. S. Naval Reserve in Dubuque, Iowa, in December of 1952. He received an honorable discharge in December of 1960. He married Beba Beth Miller in June of 1955. They had three children, Randy (Debbie) Carpenter, Clyde (Cheryl) Carpenter and Lynn (Bob) Walgenbach.
Bud spent many years in the finance and banking business and was the President and CEO of Metropolitan National Bank in Monona, Wis. He was later employed as the Administrator of Veterans Loan Division at the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs. Bud was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Graduate School of Banking. He was a 50 plus year member of Doric Masonic Lodge No. 356. He participated in baseball, basketball and football while in high school and enjoyed watching his sons and daughter play in sports along with their eight grandchildren, Calvin and Caitlin Carpenter, Shannon, Leah and Mariah Carpenter, and Tia, Jared and Nicole Fish. He is further survived by six great grandchildren with two on the way; sister Betsy Berry; brother-in-law, Jerry Schell; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Nell Schell.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2024, with Rev. Dave Bechtold presiding. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park for the family. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday.
