Mary Jane Quartuccio

MADISON-Mary J. Quartuccio, age 85 of Madison, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Oregon Manor.  She was born on Feb. 15, 1932, in Madison, the daughter of Nicholas and Jenny Quartuccio.  Mary was one of three sisters and three brothers who grew up in the heart of Madison's Italian Green Bush Neighborhood.  At the age of 13, she acquired a special permit and was hired to work at St. Mary's Hospital making baby formula.  During her high school years, Mary was chairman of the Dramatics Club.  She worked full-time in business at Farmer's Mutual Insurance (a predecessor of American Family Insurance), American Breeder's Service, Office Supply Company, and Helen Ballweg Company, where she was vice president.  Mary spent her free time dancing at Turner Hall, bowling, and playing basketball, volleyball and baseball.  She always had a smile on her face and was a very complementary woman who made those around her feel good.  Mary was an animal lover, especially her beloved poodle Rudy, and loved traveling to Door County.  She enjoyed a good game of bingo and competitive game of cards with her community on Femrite Dr.  Mary always made a point to keep in touch with those who were important to her, especially class reunions with her classmates from Central High.  She is survived by her brother, Anthony (Pam) Quartuccio. Mary was preceded in death by her father, Nicholas; mother, Jenny; four siblings, Rose Staggs, John Quartuccio, Florence Harvey and Joseph Quartuccio. A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2017, with Chaplain Stephen J. Zwettler presiding.  Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, at a later date.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday, followed by dinner at 6:00.  The family wishes to thank the staffs at both the Oregon Manor and Home Health United for their compassionate care.
