Arlene Lucille Moberg

MADISON-Arlene Moberg, age 92, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017. She was born on Sept. 22, 1924, in Daleyville, Wis., the daughter of Henry and Sophia (Disrud) Dahlby. Arlene graduated from Mount Horeb High School. She moved to Madison with her parents in 1942 and met her first husband, Norman "Buck" Norton at American Optical Company. They were married in 1943 and had two daughters. Norman preceded her in death in 1973. In 1974 she married Garwood Mather. He preceded her in death in 1994. In 1997, Arlene married Leslie Moberg and he preceded her in death in 1998. Arlene was a professional secretary, mostly to architectural firms. She was always learning and adapting to changing technologies in the office world, from transcribing her shorthand notes on manual typewriters to using various electric typewriters to word processing on different types of computers. Arlene was a member of XYZ (Xtra Years of Zest) and Tenney Park and Beth Keyes Circles at Bethel Lutheran Church, International Association of Administrative Professionals, AZBA Ladies, Daughters of the Nile Antioch Temple 113 and Order of the Eastern Star. As a long time member, Arlene volunteered in many areas of Bethel Lutheran Church, including Parish Shoppe assistant manager, altar guild, Sunday morning greeter and kitchen assistant. She also volunteered on election days at the Meriter McKee Clinic voting site and Oakwood West human resources office. Arlene was soft-spoken and genteel, never unkind in word or deed. She worked full-time, helping to support her family yet made the time to make everyone feel welcome in her home. Arlene enjoyed bowling and playing cards, especially euchre, cribbage and rummy royal, and especially enjoyed family trips to Door County and the annual Christmas cookie baking days with Nancy and Jan. Arlene is survived by her daughters, Jan (Ron) Opelt and Nancy (Dave) Sarbacker; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kate (John) Chandler, and their children, Lily and Dante; Melinda Prior and her children, Moira and Rook; Joel (Jenny) Sarbacker and their children, Abby and Max; and Nicole Sarbacker and her children, Esaiah and Millie; nephew, Gary (Marla); great-niece, Claire; sister-in-law, Millie; stepdaughters Judy Baukin, Jean (Gary) Frank and Jeri (Steve) Cramer; step-grandchildren, Carlye, Jason, Rick, Teri, Tina, Randy and Rob; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands; brother, Orville; and step-grandson, Lance Frank. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 12 noon, on Saturday, April 8, 2017. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. A private burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park.
