Obituary
MIDDLETON-Mary Catherine Dorais, age 95, devoted and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Attic Angel Place. She was born on December 23, 1921, daughter of the late John and Mary (Sullivan) Dilworth in Detroit, Michigan. Mary Kay graduated from Visitation High School and then went on to earn a bachelors degree from the University of Detroit. On September 2, 1944 she married Thomas Dorais and they remained sweethearts for nearly 60 years and together they raised a loving family of 7 daughters and 3 sons. Mary Kay was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and volunteered for many church and civic organizations. She had a variety of interests including gardening, bridge, golf, tennis, reading, movies, worldwide travel and was an avid sports fan, especially of Notre Dame Football. She cherished spending time with her beautiful family. Mary Kay is survived by nine of her children; Susan (Mike) Zerafa, Diane Broome, Thomas (Terri) Dorais, Nancy (Jim) McDonald, Mary Grace Dorais, Patricia Adolphs, Robert Dorais, Kathleen (Steve) Klei, and Karen Dorais; 28 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. In addition to her loving husband, Thomas, Mary Catherine was preceded in death by two sons, Charles and Jimmy (in infancy); four loving brothers, Jack, Phillip, Robert and David Dilworth and a loving sister, Rosemary VanGoethem. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 602 Everglade Drive, Madison at 11:00 am, Friday March 3, 2017, with Father Bart Timmerman presiding. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of the Mass. Following the service there will be a luncheon in the church social hall. The family would like to extend a very special Thank You to the compassionate and loving staff at Attic Angel for their devoted care of Mary Kay. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church or Agrace HospiceCare, Inc. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Sending sincere sympathy and love to all my cousins on the passing of your Mom. She was the last member of my Dad, Jack's family. I had the pleasure of seeing her just over five years ago when my husband and I traveled to Middleton to pick up our new Golden Retriever puppy. Your mom and I had lunch and I was absolutely delighted to have had the opportunity to visit with her. She so much reminded me of our common Grandma (Widdy) and she seemed pleased when I told her so.

So sad to learn of Aunt Mary Kay's passing. I have loving memories of my Aunt. I will always remember when she took care of me when as a child I was injured while my father was hospitalized and our house had flooded, Aunt Mary Kay insisted I stay with the Dorais. She was always kind and warm and I have thought of her often over the years. Love to all my cousins.

The happiest memories of my youth growing up on Ashton Road revolve around Mrs. and Mr. Dorais' wonderful family. I remember Susie and Ducky, my best friend Tom, Nancy, my first date, Gracie and Chucky, Bobby, cute little Patty, and baby Katie. I didn't know Karen then for she came along after the family moved out to 13 Mile and Lahser - that was a loss to our neighborhood.
The last time I saw Mrs. Dorais was when Tom and I flew out to Beaver Island maybe 8 years ago. She was a gracious host and engaging guide. She escorted us all over the island, sharing her favorite spots, the beautiful beaches, the old lighthouse, the local community center where she volunteered. We even visited Mr. Dorais gravesite.
Though I am far away in Haines, Alaska, I will always cherish the good times I have had with Mr. and Mrs. Dorais' great family. For that matter, every now and then, Tom, Terri, and I still get together.

My dear departed wife Kay Mcelwain loved MaryKay dearly and was a devoted golfing partner on Beaver Island. I am sure that my Kay was the first to welcome her into Paradise.
