Debora Sue "Debbie" Suchomel
April 26, 1958 - February 14, 2017
Obituary
MADISON-Debora Sue Suchomel, age 58, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at her home. She was born on April 26, 1958, in Madison, the daughter of Samuel and Patricia (Dunn) Kubly. Debbie was a 1976 graduate of Sun Prairie High School. She married Rick Suchomel on June 10, 1978, at Sacred Hearts in Sun Prairie. Debbie had a passion for helping people and nursing was a perfect fit for her. She received her Associate Degree in Nursing from MATC in 1983. She continued her education and graduated from UW-Madison School of Nursing in May 2001. Debbie loved working as an RN at Group Health and Meriter Hospital before retiring in 2013. Debbie's greatest joy was spending time with her large family. If it was warm out you could always find Debbie and Rick at the ballpark. If she wasn't playing ball herself, she was coaching Barry, Kelly and Tina's ball games. When she wasn't coaching, Debbie and Rick were always on the sidelines cheering them on. Debbie was not one for sitting still or being indoors. She was up for anything that involved being active, especially when it meant spending time with her grandson, Ethan. Debbie was a dog lover in every fashion. She absolutely adored their dog, Riley and her five fur grandbabies. When spring rolled around she couldn't wait to start planting flowers and working on her vegetable garden. Debbie also enjoyed Brewer games, playing cards, bon fires, reading, bowling, fishing, camping, cracking jokes, making you laugh, sending the best birthday cards and spending time with family and friends. She greatly enjoyed being a leader and mentor of the Madison Stroke Survivor Group. Her will to fight, overcome and never give up was an inspiration to all who met her. Her positive attitude and determination provided hope to other members of her support group. She would tell you, "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain." Debbie is survived by Rick, her husband of 38 years; children, Barry (Shannon) Suchomel, Kelly (Tony) Raffel and Tina (Cameron) Dary; grandson, Ethan Suchomel; favorite dog, Riley; mother, Patricia Kubly; brothers, Bill (Mary) Kubly and Dennis (Taffee) Kubly; sisters, Sharon Draeger, Darlene (Dennis) Landen, Kathy (Ron) Thorson , Jean Kubly, Bonnie Kubly , Mary Kubly, Diane (Lee) Anderson, Connie Kubly, Karin Finken, Patti (Bob) Brown and Pam Kubly; sisters-in-law, Geri Kubly, Carmen Kubly and Bonnie (Dennis) Nagel; aunt, Mary Dunn; uncle, Leonard Dunn; mother-in-law, Janet Suchomel; brothers-in-law, Rudy (Sandy) Suchomel and John Suchomel; and 47 nieces and nephews. Debbie was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Kubly; brothers, Tom Kubly, Jeff Kubly and Mike Kubly; father-in-law, Rudy Suchomel; sisters-in-law, Cindy Suchomel and Julie Suchomel; and brother-in-law, Frederick Suchomel. A Memorial Mass will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, with Father Chad Droessler presiding. Friends and family may pay their respects at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, and from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Tuesday. I remember Debbie and her infectious laugh and smile. There were countless conversations in the evening while at a local hospital where we would talk about owning a hobby farm and then going through the MLS listings through first Weber! Deb always talked about her family and it was very clear how much she adored her kids. So long for now friend.....

Sending my prayers to Rick and family. The loss of Deb is so overwhelming a this time. However the determination she strived for after her stroke is something to be admired by all. Her dedication to achieving more and more not only for herself, but also for her family showed her ongoing ambition.
I had the pleasure of working with her as a nurse in the PACU at Meriter Hospital. She advocated for her
patients all the time and continued that strength when she had her stroke. If anyone could push for what was needed it was Debbie. Her memories are an inspiration to all. Sending my thanks for being included in her life. Sandy Shotliff

Rick and family. This is so hard to believe about Debbie. I am so sorry for your loss. Its amazing just how many memories of her I have . All of the great times I spent with her , your girls and my daughter Heather at Kennedy Little league park. She was a great couch during the softball years. I was amazed at all the time Debbie took to do this for so many of our children! What a special person. I am so sorry for the loss for you and your family. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.

Dear Suchomel Family,
I did not know Debora personally, but I know, love and respect her daughter Tina. She must have been a terrific mother, and Tina is a tribute to her. My heart breaks for you all and the pain you must be experiencing.
