MIDDLETON/MINNEAPOLIS, MN-Josephine (Jo) Stoffels, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018, at age 97. She was born on June 24, 1920, in Ashton, the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Hollfelder) Laufenberg. After marrying Henry in 1944, they built a house in Middleton where Jo lived for the next 50 years. She retired from Middleton High School where she worked as a cook for 25 years. She enjoyed her work there and often volunteered her time for special events simply because she enjoyed being around the young people. She loved to sing and was one of the original members of the Madison Diocesan Choir. Jo liked to Polka and go to garage sales. In 1994 she moved to Minneapolis to be closer to her three children and grandsons. She spent much time with her family and enjoyed being part of her grandson's activities and watching them grow. Jo is survived by her daughter, Kathy, son Rick (Mary), daughter-in-law Eileen and three grandsons; Karl, Sam and Jacob. She was preceded in death by husband Henry (Sam) and son Maynard. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, with Father Brian Wilk presiding. Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Henry and Josephine were close family friends to our family. Josephine is now free from pain and joins family members embraced in God's loving arms. She was a beautiful and loving lady. I am sure she is flying with the angels and enjoying her new home. Rest in peace, Josephine.

Josephine was a joy to our staff and clients at Adult Day at Friendship Center. She loved watching children, dancing and singing. She also enjoyed nature, sitting outside walking around the garden, and telling stories of her travels and adventures. Her spirit is missed and our clients are sad to hear of your loss. We think of her in heaven , as an angel in the choir, visiting with all those who have gone before her. May she rest in peace.

24 years ago we sat with Jo in her living room here in Middleton. She was interviewing us as the potential owners of the home that she built with her husband Henry and where they raised their children.
She had questions for us. What were our plans, how long would we stay....what were our intentions?
She told us about the neighborhood. She told stories of her life in Middleton. Stories about her marriage and her children. We talked for a couple of hours. We learned, and knew , that this house AND family was built on a strong foundation of love, faith, family, and hard work. As a young couple that is exactly what WE wanted for our life.
Well, she picked us!!!
We have LOVED their home, our home, ever since. We are raising our family here, and think that Jo would be proud of us. We too have maintained her philosophy of strong faith, love, family, and hard work.
We know that Jo LOVED her home here in Middleton, and had reservations about moving to MN, but also looked forward to being closer to her children and grandchildren.
Jo, as you knew, we LOVE your little home here in Middleton and will continue to take care of the most beautiful and solid home on the block! Tell Henry when you see him in Heaven :)
HE will be your PEACE.
